The full bearing set is almost $550 so we only change what is needed. The 1st, 4th and 5th gear syncros are often OK. They vary in price depending on the exact model but around $120 ea. If the 2nd gear hub or gear is damaged beyond repair, then they are about $660 pair. NO gearbox is cheap to repair and in your case, there is almost no choice apart from genuine Toyota parts.

I dont think there is anything more I can tell you on this matter till you bring me the car to test drive, or the box to repair.

RE: Gearbox rebuild (duff_boy)

All gears are less than perfect, so id definitely want all the syncro's replaced as a minimum. as far as i know the parts are relatively cheap, aren't they?

RE: Gearbox rebuild (Road and Track)

it takes 11 hours to remove the box, strip it, refit 1 or 2 syncro rings and then reassemble and refit. This is the $1000 end of the budget costs, and the most common. More damage however, is then more cost. Most of the cost is labour, so we try to fix anything that looks a bit sad.

RE: Gearbox rebuild (duff_boy)

well they're not freaked, just notchy...

RE: Gearbox rebuild (Road and Track)

gearbox jobs can be anything in the $1500-$3000 range, drive in-drive out. it very much depends on how much harm has been done by driving with crappy 2nd gear syncros.

RE: Gearbox rebuild (duff_boy)

quote:
[br]Sorry didn't realise you posted this in Road & Track section.
