(bigh)

Guys, Car is for sale. Open to offers.

The last time I drove the car, I had an issue with steering - it's super heavy, and the battery is almost dead.

It's just costing me money in registration and is just sitting there, so it needs a new home.

Includes the Recaro seats that cost me $2400.

As I'm currently living in the USA, PM or email only.

$3500 or best offer.
RE: BiGH's MR2. (bigh)

Boo!

Blast from the past!

Looks like my for sale thread on my wheels is long gone...

Came back to a car VERY covered in dust, charged the battery, started up no dramas after 640 days. Have to say, I love how reliable these cars are! Ok maybe my battery is more than a bit screwed, but still impressive!
RE: BiGH's MR2. (bigh)

Long overdue update.

I moved into the city and haven't driven the car very much at all - it's been sitting at my dad's place, and driven once in a blue moon.

I've just accepted a Job offer overseas, and it's now time to sell the car.

I'll be putting up a for sale ad (hopefully) soon.

RE: BiGH's MR2. (purple5ive)

yeah, your cars AFM equipped, it will def run much smoother, i noticed that too when i was running an AFM.
RE: BiGH's MR2. (bigh)

ok BOV is now recirculating :) - it's very quiet :( but the car runs much better- MUCH more smooth especially on gear changes. FUNNY about that.

In the process of fitting the Apexi pod that arrived I broke the overflow bottle port on the radiator filler neck. DOH. oh well it's an easy fix at least.

RE: BiGH's MR2. (bigh)

another *fun* part of having a JDM toyota that was also sold locally -part numbers for the spare wheel retainer. Apparently the rev 1 part is different to the rev 2 part... GRRRRRR annoying.

the apexi pod came today. so will hopefully fit that tonight, and also got the ssqv recirc adaptor which also should go in tonight. FINALLY the car is going to run reasonably right afm + atmos bov = fail.

properly mounted pod will also be less rattly. Replaced the canoe clips on the pod gauge holder, now it feels SOLID :) but I'm starting to think about if I really need the AFM - might move to a single pod now that no after market ECU...

but we'll see.

RE: BiGH's MR2. (bigh)

ok the pricing in AU for the seals/oring is a little different..

Distributor o ring 19115-14106 this part number is in correct maybe 90099-14090 $6.15Dist dust seal 19127-74040 $6.09Intake gasket #1 17177-88381 $16.01Intake gasket #2 17171-88381 $14.64Cam cover gasket 11213-88381 $37.36Cam cover gasket#2 11214-88381 $13.59 Now the next question is to do it myself. I'm a bit concerned if the intake manifold gasket is leaking oil... I would have thought that there shouldn't have been much oil in the intake...

also is there such a thing as uprated gaskets for intake etc? (I'm running more boost)
RE: BiGH's MR2. (Reddtarga)

Re the door:
Have you had a look at re-setting the top hinge where it mounts to the door?
If you could move the door inwards a little at the top it could help to stop wind noise.
But you may have to use aftermarket bolts to do this, because I think the stock bolts have a locking taper.

RE: BiGH's MR2. (bigh)

ok i've confirmed that i don't have the correct spare wheel retaining clip - trying to source one of those.

Had a big look in the engine bay at the oil leaks.
distributor is leaking oil
it appears that the bottom of the manifold at the front (near the belts) is also leaking oil and or the rocker cover - will replace both.
finally i think the sump is leaking too. - leaks leaks leaks everywhere.

Distributor o ring 19115-14106 $5
Dist dust seal 19127-74040 $4
Intake gasket #1 17177-88381 $11.60
Intake gasket #2 17171-88381 $11.60
Cam cover gasket 11213-88381 $32.83
Cam cover gasket#2 11214-88381 $11.95

I'm also starting to look at having the stripe painted white, and where i've rubbed through the clearcoat, along with the undersection between the wheels and possibly a gen3 lip painted white. This is of course bringing up the idea of doing a tobes delete.... and having a clear side repeater installed... will do some googling to see if anyone has done this.

also my door is definitely warped... :| no idea how this can be resolved.... :(

RE: BiGH's MR2. (bigh)

Oh there are definitely a few places it's not a single point. The door being out of alignment is more of an issue. However it appears as though the door may be twisted :/.

Anyways drilled out the bolt that was. Broken then it started raining. Fun! Lol.

I'm not sure if I have the correct mr2 spare wheel retaining clamp. Can someone please take a pic of their clamp? And measure the length of the clamp? It doesn't really fit the spare wheel at all.

RE: BiGH's MR2. (Reddtarga)

bigh
Oh another issue I'm struggling with is wind noise. The passenger door doesn't seem to fit right, I need to see if the seating can be adjusted. I'm watching wheeler dealers, and they suggested running a smoke machine in the car to detection do leaks... Interesting....

A noise source in the passenger compartment while driving can sometimes be very hard top pinpoint.

I once had an annoying wind noise from the passenger side but couldn't find the exact source.
I even taped up the passenger side door and rear vent with gaffa but still could not stop it.
Finally I modified a mechanic's stethoscope I got from Supercheap by using the earpiece and fork with a length of plastic hose taped to a plastic funnel.
Found exactly where the noise was coming from straight away, but you need a passenger to listen to it.
RE: BiGH's MR2. (bigh)

ok bought an Apexi intake kit off the forums here..that should come in next week. I've got a big list of stuff to get done on the weekend on the car ( assuming weather holds out).

This will be more of a painting weekend.
1. red brake calipers
2. rust inhibit surface rust spots
3. touch up paint those spots.
4. mount spare wheel again (I need to source a new clamp as mine I think is the wrong one - off a different car or mount a bit of wood to sort it.)
5. measure up a piece of metal to sit behind the front number plate. It looks crappy with the current numberplate mount and my 3 character plate. (the alternate option of a different mount may be looked at too)
6. seeing if there is anyhting I can do about the gaps in the window seals / passenger door that doesn't sit right.
7. fixing the mounting on the pillar gauge holder - the canoe pins don't hold it in correctly - time for bolts and locknuts.
8. drill out a bolt I broke that retains the plastic undertray (will prob do this first).
9. see if I can suss out what is leaking oil
10. investigate spraying the side strip white.

just a small list :p

I'm also thinking of selling my stock seats. as the recaros age, I don't believe that these will hold the resale value when I do finally end up selling the car (I was holding onto the original seats so I could swap back at time of sale and then sell the recaro seats / sparco rails) ... but yeah.. dunno
RE: BiGH's MR2.
