hey mate im probably get the old one recapped for now. and keep it as a spare.

no probs i recap them but im a hobbyist not a business,been looking for spares for my fleet

So its been close to a week and the car hasnt stalled again. Done over 300km so far.

I'm not sure you should try "overriding" a problem with a boost controller. What might happen if/when the problem is solved, maybe boost to high heaven, which is a very big number, followed by smoke.
Sort the ECU first. Thinking about it, you mention overboosting ....hmm that is another thing that needs to be explained /understood before increasing.

Thanks man. I was going to run this ECU for a week / 1000km if it doesnt stall - I might get a dual stage boost controller and make turn to the boost up on the other side to 10psi or something. THats the plan anyway haha

THe stock fuel map is/was apparently on the rich side of ideal, for safety sake. How it varies with capacitor ageing, I don't know. Overboosting - I think that's a wastegate issue, probably an actuator issue, not the ECU.
Mine is running silly rich and I am expecting the fuel pressure to be high, due to the regulator being old. If it is, I will buy an adjustable reg. Also my stock actuator was leaking so I have bought a Kinugawa actuator with 11psi spring, and blocked off the TVSV system, until I see what's happening. Then off to the dyno for adjustment.
Stock recapped ecu, stock injectors (I think), Hope that helps.

Is there a chance that the old ECU was causing over fuelling & boost spikes?

Any electronics repair guy can do it. Like a hifi repairman, someone who repairs microwaves or tv's, doesn't have to be auto electrician.
As for the borrowed ECU, if it used to control the other car's TVSV correctly, and your original ECU used to control your TVSV to boost >7psi, then we have something else strange going on.

The ECU was known to working correctly when it was installed into the other vehicle. It also makes boost fine - its just less than the old ECU. Also I ant find anyone to do the recapping?

The bleed system (TVSV) which enables the 3sgte to boost beyond the wastegate spring pressure (7 psi) is turned on by the ECU. Commonly, not boosting properly is not the ECU, as other things can lose boost pressure, but since all you did was swap the ECUs, then I would put the old one back, just to see if the boost changes. This other ECU which has been supplied, was that car boosting ok ? You may end up just getting your old ECU recapped.

Okay new ECU is in (not new but known working). Car is a lot smoother on cold start, hasnt stalled yet!!! (YET). Only thing I noticed is that I'm only getting 7PSI now, whereas before I was getting 10PSI? Would my old ECU been causing some over fuelling or something? From what I read on MR2OC is that Gen2 wastegate PSI should be 7 or so (not sure how accurate that is)

Thanks ReddTarga, I have a known good ECU coming for testing. If all goes well Ill try and contact Michael from that thread. Unfortunately all his websites are gone now, so he might be out of the game.
