If the price of the Toyota stuff was unreasonably high I'd argue for other red brand coolants but honestly with it being like $7 a liter when you dilute it 50/50 it does beg the question "why not" you can rest easy knowing there is nothing better and a lot of other car friends also use the Toyota red so it's favored by enthusiast and the cars.

Nevertheless, if you can't get it shipped out to you or its not available then other brands of red will suffice.

Thanks for the image, any chance of share the whole label? You've got me interested now. My bottle of toyota red must be a clear skin as it's not got that info on it.

Do you mix the Toyota Red concentrate at 50/50? With demineralised water from SuperCheap or the like?

I think I went with Toyotas recommendation of a 30/70 (probably ended up closer to 40/60) mix, but yes with demineralised water. I'll check what it said on the drum but from memory I think it suggested the 50/50 if you expected freezing conditions.

Re the whole coolant debate that I seem to see frequently, I just want to say that we often say 'refer to BGB', in this instance the BGB states "use a good brand of ethylene-glycol coolant"...ill bite my tongue (or fingers I guess?) to say anymore on that

Yeh i mean no disrespect to the more knowledgable haha i wana do this right as much as the next guy. Everyone on these mr2 forums are always awesome with responses and always very helpful. Id like to stay on the forums and not seem like a tard at the same time. The more i learn properly the better

Awesome. Yes i think alot of it is from the overflow and engine. Il release all the plugs next time including engine drain. Ive seen the only way to get the coolant out is to syphone it out? Is there a better way, or is this the only

This is my first time doing it on the mr2 so once i have it down future flushes should be fine.

You should only need to siphon out the overflow bottle.

Also check out the coolant drain/flush article in the tech article section of this forum.
It may help you to understand the SW20 coolant system, and why some people have problems with it.

I was too silly too see the wisdom in OAT coolant, but have since learned. Forums will come back as the better place to share knowledge, that facebook thing will fade away. (I hope)

Apologies, edited - not all will ignore just me. Sadly, seen many of those with extensive knowledge turned off from the forums because of enthusiasts not following advice given again and again and cutting corners.

Harsh. Good old days before today’s sensitivity and stupidity, mechanic would clip an enthusiast over the back of the head and calling him straight for cutting corners from advice provided, done in an effort to protect him from costly aspects in the future.

Choice of product, process of service and consequence is all yours.

If you used anything other than Toyota Red - if you are skipping steps - you are creating a receipt for disaster and let us all know to ignore your requests for information.

Maybe a little bit harsh there, I don't think its necessary to ignore you if you don't use Toyota red...

But like Tony has pointed out the BGB, it gives step by step instruction how to do what you ask. Bleeding the system takes a bit of time and a bit more patience, but do it right and you should avoid problems.

Read the bgb, if you don’t have a copy download it.
The bgb will point out the drain points in the hardliners under the car, the engine drain point (from memory), and the radiator.
If you have green in your system, remember also clean out the overflow bottle in the engine bay. Full flush is required - fill system with distilled water, run vehicle, and flush/drain system at all drain points (as per bgb). You can use a compressor blow tool (with wet cloth to seal at tool point) at the various points to help blow remaining water out (though 99% will drain out). Then fill with Toyota Red Coolant, ensure full bleed as per bgb.
