I really appreciate the other suggestions as well as I now I have options for local mechanics when something breaks in the future or I need a service.
I'll let you know the outcome and what work I get done. I'm still interested if anyone has any recommendations on any upgrades while the motor is out.
Re: Looking for a Mechanic in SEQ that specialises in MR2's (Shaz)

Scope (Craig) is great.

I needed gearbox swap & my mechanic here in Newy wasn't keen, so I decided a holiday in QLD was a nice idea & got Craig to do it for me. He also gave the car a thorough check for me & fixed a few other things.
Re: Looking for a Mechanic in SEQ that specialises in MR2's (Hoonsy)

Kid_20, I'm a Gold Coast local as well. Although he tends to specialize in Evos primarily, Rod down at Step Up Automotive in Southport has done a fair bit of work to my turbo SW20 and I've had nothing but pleasant experiences. He's a motoring enthusiast himself so it's awesome to have a mechanic that you run into at car meets/track days. 100% recommend his services - I've never had an issue and he's always looked after me when it comes to pricing

I've heard pretty good things about Scope (user on these forums) as well but I haven't given him a shot yet as my car is currently a daily & the distance is too far
Re: Looking for a Mechanic in SEQ that specialises in MR2's (kid_20)

Scope, LouDen Motorsport, Road and Track were all ones that were recommended in older posts but I couldn't find them on Google. Most probably over the next month or 2. I'm just doing the leg work so I know where to go and re-registering an old car so I've got transport while the MR2 is in surgery.
Re: Looking for a Mechanic in SEQ that specialises in MR2's (mister2)

OK. I'd be more than happy to recommend his work.

If you find any other good MR2 mechanics on the Gold Coast, I'd be very interested to hear about them too.
Re: Looking for a Mechanic in SEQ that specialises in MR2's (dennis the menace)

How urgent is the work? I'd be happy to discuss, but I'm fairly busy at the moment.
Looking for a Mechanic in SEQ that specialises in MR2's (kid_20)

Hi,
I know this question seems to get asked every few years, but the mechanics that were recommended in the past don't seem to come up when I google them.

I live on the Gold Coast, but I'm looking for a really good mechanic to complete a full mechanical overhaul anywhere in the South East QLD region (I don't mind driving that little bit further to go the right person eg Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba etc). My 1994 SW20 is creeping up to the 200,000km mark and requires the usual full service (time belts, fluids, pumps etc) but it also has a oil leak, blows smoke and has a slipping clutch just to name a few things.

I'm planning on keeping this car for many years to come so if you know of someone good I'd really appreciate your help, and also any tips that anyone has on inexpensive upgrades/improvements (hopefully within a few hundred $$$) or essential changes that should be made while the motor is out.

Thanks.
Colin
