I'm assuming that you've checked the oil level?

Yeah I have, it's just below full.

Just confirming you know how to check it properly.
My owner's manual says to start the motor, let it run for a couple of minutes, stop it and immediately then check the level.

I found that if it has been sitting overnight, and I check it in the morning before I start the motor, it should be about 8 mm above the full mark.
If it had been just below the full mark checking it that way, it would probably be on the bottom of the hatched part of the dipstick compared to checking it according to the manual.

Anyway, those oil level sensors are known to be unreliable, and I tossed mine ages ago.

I'd read that they were problematic, which is why they didnt have them on the later Beams 3SGE...

Faulty oil level sensor could possibly be your issue. I had a similar issue with my 1997 Bathurst where the oil level light would turn on and off randomly - bought a new sensor and have had no issues since. I have a feeling the sensors might be discontinued now - I had very hard time getting a replacement for mine. It took a few months to arrive and was expensive.

The 97 Bathurst part number (check if it is the same for 98 model)
Engine Oil Level Sensor: 89491-20060

You can also buy oil level sensor block off plates from twosrus.com or just unplug the sensor and bridge terminals together to turn off the light.

Hi guys,

I drive a 98' Bathurst and recently I have noticed the oil light coming on. It only happens when I'm on the freeway doing 100 km/hr and the tacho hits about 3k. I noticed that it stays on until I back off the power and the tacho falls bellow 2750.
Any help would be much appreciated.
