The 100amp version is very hard to replace as its unique to SW20 turbo. various camry & Tarago ones are a close fit but the plugs are in different places.
Re: Buying an Alternator help (Reddtarga)

mcgregor
Yeah i bought the cheapest thing i could find on ebay that said it would fit. After removing the old one and visually comparing the two the looked alright but when i put the new one in it was off by 3mm to the tensioning bolt hole. So i had to take it back out and as im in regional nsw with the sw20 being my main form of transport i had to bush mechanic it and drilled a hole 6mm bigger to allow for that 3mm difference. I mean its been working without a problem for last 6 months so i cant complain about performance and thats been a rough life where even my drive way is 1.5km of ungraded dirt.
If you can rebuild your original then would highly recommend it as apparently there were a number of different alternators for the sw20 so may need to modify or order multiple replacements of even the denso which would be a pitty at the price.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is your car a turbo?
The turbo alternators are larger than the NA ones and are about 3 mm different to each other at the tensioner holes, so you may have fitted an NA one that would have a slightly less power rating.
Should work OK though.

Re: Buying an Alternator help (SW20TT)

I had the same problem finding an original 100amp alternator recently. I opted to have my original Denso alternator rebuilt by Peter at Tattersall Road Auto Electrical Services in Blacktown. I paid $250 and it comes with 12 months warranty. He uses original Denso parts for the rebuild. its only been 2-3 weeks but so far so good!
Re: Buying an Alternator help (mcgregor)

Yeah i bought the cheapest thing i could find on ebay that said it would fit.
