Recall a few conversations about this over the years. Very happy for you Doug.
Re: Falcon's MR2 (Falcon)

Thanks for the positive comments fellas. Didn't know if it would be gladly accepted here but I did want to share.
Be careful what you wish for Aaron as there are many funny stories.
When I first got it running we took it to Adelaide International Raceway for some testing but didn't give it any full angry standing starts. Was quite pleased with it's handling, brakes etc. so entered it for my first crack at Collingrove Hillclimb, A fair bit of interest when it came out of the trailer for the first time and I heard mutterings to the effect "Well that aint gunna bloody work, no chance." I give it whatfor off the line and the b*##~~d thing collapses a little piece of light walled tube supporting the final drive. Put it back in the trailer. Lots of giggles.
Next meeting. No breakages. Starting to get my eye in after four runs up the hill. Quicker each run.
Same blokes that were originally doing the muttering were now my best mates and had tape measures all over the bloody thing.
Re: Falcon's MR2 (Knightrous)

Amazing car Doug!
Can you give us a run down on the specs and what it was built for?
Must be a bunch of stories to go with it!
Re: Falcon's MR2 (92 Hard Top)

Thanks for the story. First was a rear/mid mount dirt track mongrel thing that very nearly killed a mate. I got sick of building nice high compression engines
and then letting them swallow rocks and gravel. Wasn't overly impressed getting hit in the mouth and face by the rocks that didn't go down the bell mouth of the carby. I was dumb enough to try to win my heats. In the finals I'd start somewhere down the back. REVERSE GRID !!! Dumbo.

Re: Falcon's MR2 (Carmikey)

WOW!! totally cool story Doug.

Sent from my SM-J320ZN using Tapatalk

Re: Falcon's MR2 (Admin)

Wow that's a cool story. Did you get any other pics of the car? I never realised that you built machines like that. You're obviously not just a pretty face...

Re: Falcon's MR2 (Falcon)

I hope some of you blokes might be interested in this little nasty thing.
I went out to Lakeside Raceway to cheer for the MR2 guys who were competing in the ICC event.
The rear suspension uprights began to mildly attract my attention then the name also made a bit of
an impression too. Hang on, that's my suspension geometry!
Right beside the MR2s, about four metres from where I was standing talking to the guys.
It could have been over somewhere else in the pits and I may not have seen it.
Over a period of about two years I designed and constructed it and finally got it operating and
CAMS registered in 1978. FORTY YEARS ago. That was in Adelaide.
After some years I sold it interstate and lost track of it. Then it turns up here. Amazing.
And amazing that it still exists. Most race cars don't live long lives.
The owner had been trying to find if I was still kicking too! We where both a bit tickled.
Sure made my day.

Falcon's MR2 (rikkir)

I thought i'd post a few pics of Dougs MR2 at Wakefield.
