Here is some updates.
This is a mild and safe tune bottom lines low boost 14psi and top lines 18psi Green no Meth and Red with Meth.

Low boost 14 psi with NM axis RWKW Graph

Low boost 18 psi with NM axis RWKW Graph

Can I get more power? Yes.
Choose reliability over power figures.
Change exhaust housing from .64 to .86 will get more top end power, more timing, more aggressive lambda targets and change intake manifold, but I'm happy with this setup. Yes I could of gone the 2gr route, but all ready invested to much in the 3sgte build. Great street car for the twisty Adelaide hills roads with an odd track day here and there. Have a Water to Air kit to install when I'm ready to do the work. Planning a new full respray soon, it's red it needs it.
Car still has only 115000kms on it.

Re: Time to repair my Late 92 Hard Top (92 Hard Top)

Been driving it around it is fine on the street, But on the race track after a couple of hot laps the ECT started to over heat. So more upgrades. A TRD 71c Thermostat and Mishimoto Triplecore Aluminum Radiator. Remove AC system aswell.

Re: Time to repair my Late 92 Hard Top (92 Hard Top)

A little update motor back in the car and running it in. all seem well so far.
Re: Time to repair my Late 92 Hard Top (Admin)

Yeah. It sucks that this happened.
I had an engine melt the tops of two spark plugs a few years ago. The bits of metal then got stuck in the value seats causing loss of compression. I had to rebuild the engine, as the pistons and bores were also damaged.
I then changed to a different tuner and haven't had an issue since. My current engine makes good power and has been very reliable for years!
I go to Croydon Racing Developments for my tunes. They are a bit too far away for you though!
Re: Time to repair my Late 92 Hard Top (92 Hard Top)

Admin
My point is that he tuned your engine too close to the edge. Good tunes have a little bit more fuel and a bit less timing to what will give the maximum power to have headroom for error.
I'd rather make 5% less power than have a blown up engine that made more power. 😊
The flow differences between runners on that manifold is well known and should have been added to the tune.
I have that included in my GT4 tune. I have a little bit more fuel in 2,3 and a bit less in 1,4.
If your engine had a safe tune, it wouldn't have detonated.
EGTs are your last line of defence so you can use with engine protection. EGTs are not your first line of defence against detonation.

I agree with that. I would of perfered that action to have taken place first.

Re: Time to repair my Late 92 Hard Top (Admin)

My point is that he tuned your engine too close to the edge. I wish I did. 2000 kms later on I now have stuff pistons, head and valves due to detonation. Thanks to my tuner. Not happy. It's been six months now and the current repair costs so far $4500 this hurt. I'm adding NX-SNO_201 Watermeth kit to help with engine IAT temps.

Some Picture of the repaired head.
New Valves, guides, CNC to 49.5 cc to lower compression ratio and all ported.

Re: Time to repair my Late 92 Hard Top (92 Hard Top)

Well it has a tune
Green line on waste gate spring only low boost
Red line 18psi high boost.
This is a very safe tune.
This car has far more power to go if i want. Will look at a more after putting 5000kms on the motor.
To get this extra power we will tune higher boost leaner afr, tune each cylinder and adjust cams gear to see what the motor likes.
This power has work out just how I wanted it. Heaps of mid range torque. If I want more above 6000rpm I will change exshaust housing from .64 to .82. at this stage I love it just the way it is.
I let Mike drive it he replied saying "this is the fastest 3-sgte mr2 he has driven the response is excellent and it does not need any more power." It's hard to impress him.
The tuner thinks with the current setup power could be acheived between 250 to 280 rwkw will be the target when I bring it back.

Re: Time to repair my Late 92 Hard Top (92 Hard Top)

Spool rod's installed.

Re: Time to repair my Late 92 Hard Top (92 Hard Top)

Changed my mind I have added new spool rod's.

Re: A little more Progress (92 Hard Top)

Power steering sorted out now with the link ECU, work just like the factory setup. 2nd Tune booked 2 Feb. Hope to setup EGT Sensor before tune. A little tricky to link a Haltech Can Amplifier to Link Ecu. As I ran out of Voltage inputs. Have to use CAN connector. Waiting on a Link CAN plug to change Haltech connector to a Link CAN connector. I now removed water feed to it. Also idle control is tricky as well it was not getting the best idle control with water feed removed. I found that I had to remove a plastic part inside which remove the spring tension on the air valve. Now Link ecu seem control it better now.
