Yeah, I'm hoping to find something, it's really stupid that there's no way around it :(

Anyone got a clue what I should be expecting in terms of speed? Has anyone actually timed their 0-100 in an MR2 with BEAMS?

Lol, yeh those airboxes are rare as unicorns. May just be easier to go straight to itbs...heh.

The beams head regardless of intake will always flow more than the preceding 3s. Bigger valves, better port height/valve angle, skinnier valve stems, highest lift/duration cams.

The beams also has a 65mm throttle body, gen3 only had 60 and fluted intake runners in the plenum.

Ah ok, yeah I thought I'd have the MAF, it makes sense that way anyway!
I'll probably get my mate's help to put things together once I gather the airbox and all anyway, so I'll know what's what then haha

My BEAMS came from an ST202, I bought the car with the swap made fairly recently to it, and that's all I really know about it :/

Previous owner says he bought it with 80,000kms apparently. It seems pretty healthy tbh.

The MAF mount is an integral part of the intake pipe on the lid of the airbox. The sensor itself isn't and is unlikely to come with a second-hand airbox, unless you're lucky. But you must already have the MAF sensor in your current intake setup or the ECU wouldn't let the car wouldn't run at all I imagine!

My presumption that you bought the motor from the guy I mentioned was just a guess – and totally off the mark. " /> Where did you get the engine from?

The maf should come with the airbox.

Also, just wondering, does the MAF come with the airbox or do I need to buy it separately?
I'm just not sure what it looks like etc.
I know so far that the resonators & airbox are the most important parts, anything else?

mister2, if you were addressing my BEAMS, no it's from jap afaik, with ~80,000kms on the clock.

I'm the one who did the output shaft seal after I got it, cause it was leaking like crazy haha.
Glad there's nothing else to worry about though :) hoping to find this airbox so I can show my mate that his Jetta isn't all that fast x'D

The BEAMS doesn't need any special servicing at all. No different to any other NA Toyota engine really.

I presume this is the engine from the burgundy Celica previously owned by Brad (?) in Western Sydney, who I exchanged a few messages with on the BEAMS forum. If I remeber correctly, he did all the obvious 100,000 km service things (and a bit more) before swapping the engine into his car. Having the seals on the output shaft leak after taking the axles out is pretty common, so that's nothing to worry about. After dealing with that, you should be right to just do very basic servicing for some time.

Gonna be a long long drive. Might take the trip if I can get my mate to tag along in his V6 MR2 :3

I travel from Ceduna in SA for the challenge. 1800kms each way. I do over 4000kms total, so you'll need a better excuse not to attend lol. Bring as many friends as you can, it's the best fun you can legally have in your car!

I'm prepping for a track day @ Winton Fun day early Dec.

Gotta get this airbox done properly and tyres. Hopefully I can make it to that, if not I'll try make it to that MR2 Wakefield Challenge :D

Other than changing oil and filter regularly I haven't touched mine since I did the swap 2 years ago. I've done heaps of track days and been to the MR2 challenge at Wakefield Park twice and it's been fantastic. I've done about 30,000kms since the swap and haven't had any problems. It's worth taking it to the track to let it loose and see what it's really capable of. They love revs!
I'd highly recommend you take it to the MR2 Wakefield Challenge in January - it would be great to have another Beams there....

Also, while we're on this topic.
Should I be looking at anything else that might be an easy fix that is common with a swapped BEAMS?

The engine seems to be pretty healthy and the previous owner did a whole bunch of servicing (timing belt, rocker cover gasket etc.) before swapping the engine in (as it's so easy).

I'm changing oil & filter tomorrow as well. And I've even had to change passenger-side output shaft seal (was leaking like niagra falls).

But yeah, any tips appreciated! :D
