It was lying on the floor, and my 17yr old didn't recognise it, he has done all the spanner work. So I went to the online BGB to scroll through diagrams and was quite lucky. The perspective in BGB diagram makes the piece almost unrecognisable, but there it was and made sense. Especially ones with answers (even ones without answers - they may get answered eventually)

That way when some other punter has the same drama, they search, find the question and hopefully the answer. Caring and sharing, not finding out and deleting. <img src="https://www.classic-ford.org/mr2/mr2play/upfiles/smiley/s1.gif" alt="" data-smiley="" />
Re: Help to identify bolt - 3sgte engine block (Reddtarga)

TwoDogs
Bingo, it is for the Stiffener Plate that braces the transmission to the block below the starter motor.
cheers,

Do you have the stiffener plate?
Not sure about turbo models, but I believe it has an important function on the 3SGE motor with the S54 trans.
Re: Help to identify bolt - 3sgte engine block (TwoDogs)

My son says I should delete the thread, but we can't find a Delete function anywhere.
Re: Help to identify bolt - 3sgte engine block (TwoDogs)

Bingo, it is for the Stiffener Plate that braces the transmission to the block below the starter motor.
cheers,
Re: Help to identify bolt - 3sgte engine block (TwoDogs)

Thanks Stuka but no, the cat stays are accounted for.
I can't see any parts, waiting to go back on, that go in that region.
Not sure if I need it at all, but I've seen oil come out of other engines when a bolt has been omitted.
 thanks for the response,
Nigel

Re: Help to identify bolt - 3sgte engine block (stuka)

I cant be sure as I havent worked on a stock motor for a while but it looks like its the bolt point for one of the turbo/dump pipe stay brackets.
Help to identify bolt - 3sgte engine block (TwoDogs)

 Hi,
Just reinstalling the engine and I notice a bolt between front engine mount and downpipe, just above the sump. I cannot work out its purpose.

cheers,
Nigel
