(Steve_A)

Sort of a rubbing whirring noise, sort of similar to the whine the gearbox makes normally in first at low speed but deeper. It's hard to explain at first I thought I was being paranoid until the smell and smoke confirmed it was not just in my head haha

Re: Burning Clutch Smell and Smoke from Engine Bay! (Steve_A)

I went out after the drive home from work and noticed a strange noise as I drove down the drive I'm first.

Clutched in and the noise stopped, engaged and it started again. Went in to second to see if I could still hear it and I think I could but the engine noise drowned it out as I accelerated.

Drove few hundred metres down the road to pull over and when I popped the engine lid there was some smoke but not a huge amount, accompanied by the smell of a burning clutch.

I went straight home for a better look but it's too dark so I'll have to wait till morning.

Water temps were fine sitting on 87, no warning lights and oil level is ok too. If I didn't hear the noise or smell the smoke I wouldn't have known anything was up as the car feels fine.

Any ideas?? I'm hoping it's clutch related as I was planning to put new one in this weekend anyway!
