Unfortunately haven't had much time to actually get the car ready for photos, etc. as I'm currently at war with the mechanic that roadworthied the vehicle. I had the car reinspected after purchasing it (for peace of mind) and have $1000+ of RWC issues that shouldn't of passed.. 3 of them being noisy/excessive play wheel bearings. And a handbrake cable ziptied to the caliper!
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (5SGTE)

Er, where are the pics? Oh and details too please...
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (Hoonsy)

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!

I have bought myself another MR2 and will post a thread up soon. So glad to be back in an MR2 and as a future warning to anyone considering selling theirs - DONT! Conventional daily drivers are utterly dreadful and my 2 months of daily driving a WRX felt like motor vehicular-lobotomy..
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (5SGTE)

I thought this might happen, I was less than interested in my evo8 as a road car (track car totally diff story) in a matter of months... Owning these cars is very much a love hate relationship. Sad to see you go, hope the next person who got it will be on the forums and enjoy the engine in the incorrect location with future vehicles :p

Funny thing is that I'm back in the market for an MR2. After driving my 05 WRX Club Spec 8 for about a month, I've already grown bored of it. And it doesn't have the 'classic car' appeal to me the MR2 did

So I'll be in the market for another MR2 now. Probably won't be immediately soon or anything as I'll take my time on the next one, but I'd definitely like to be in another one by the end of the year
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (Matts_SW20)

Oh thats a real shame :( I was up for quite a lot of repairs recently (see my thread if you dare) and spending that kind of money made me re-think owning an MR2 because they do have their faults but I can happily report after 1 week of driving the romance is back. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting another MR2 as I am keen to try my hand at one of the AWD rally-weapons we all know and love. So far I've got my money on a 2005 Subaru WRX STi. It'll be a nice modern change from the little midship 'Yota
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (Lumix)

Glad to hear it's back up and running. Unfortunately I think I was a little ripped off (just shy of $600 repair) but it is what it is. Going to start looking into how to improve my shifter feel. At the moment 1st to 2nd is a very messy process. It feels very 'notchy'

Hopefully going to sort all the little quality of life issues then dig into some more fun and interesting mods/work!
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (Hoonsy)

I think I spoke too soon. Car died on me again the next morning. Took the ECU out and it looks like I have a leaky capacitor (top left of photo). Going to get this sent away on Monday to get reconditioned - definitely not something I can do; I can barely solder speaker wires together as it is!

Checked my PDF electronic version of the BGB and unfortunately I see nothing referring to ECU layout. If anyone is familiar with the specs of the "C816" capacitor please let me know

Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (Hoonsy)

So small update, few people may have heard that the car died on me a little over a week ago (driving to work like usual when suddenly CEL and the car started idling at 300rpm/stalling out). I was very disappointed and was considering getting out of the MR2 game as I haven't had much luck with them so far

I received the car back today and I can happily report that my trusted mechanic gave it a good look over and gave it an all clear. He now even refers to it as "the beast" haha. Repairs consisted of re-gassing air conditioning system, slave cylinder pulled apart and lubricated to remove an annoying rattle I've had since driving the car, coolant system bled and having the car in running condition after breaking down last week (apparently nothing wrong - used OBD1 reader thingo and no codes evident?)

Unfortunately gearbox still has that god awful grind sound when going into reverse but the mechanic confirmed it was due to the lack of synchros for reverse gear - something I'll have to get used to. The repairs turned out to be much cheaper than what I anticipated so I'm definitely keen to get into some quality of life mods real soon
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (Hoonsy)

Matts_SW20
Should drive it all the way down for Toyotafest this weekend haha

Legally can't drive it for another 21 days. But when I can, I'll be driving the hell out of it! ;)
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (Matts_SW20)

Should drive it all the way down for Toyotafest this weekend haha
Re: Trey's 94 Gen3 Targa (Hoonsy)

Jaemus
Ahh, i saw this one for sale, looks absolutely stunning, and it had me thinking about getting some TOM's side skirts myself, as a departure from the two other cars I've had with Trust/Greddy skirts already haha. They're a good combination with the Phoenix Power rear pods.

Enjoy it mate, treat it nice and it'll treat you nice in return!

Thanks bud. I agree, Danny the previous owner did a very good job of matching the skirts and rear pods up - it gives the car a sporty 'angular'/wedge shape that it desperately needs

I do intend on dailying the car, but at the same time - I'll make sure she's treated like a queen!
