Well I am now running the smaller bore slave cylinder and to be honest I think it gives much better peddle feel than the larger bore and the clutch take up point is in a better position now. (not so close to the floor)

Thank you for the added information and hopefully this will help others as well when trying to work it all out.

Cheers
Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (zvargulis)

Hey Nik,

I came across this problem when installing my ATS 5 puck clutch.

So the JDM 3sgte Gen 3 SW20 (1993-1995) Slave cylinder is in fact the larger bore. Although in 3SGTE Gen 3 enignes after 1994 (1995+) went back to the smaller bore slave.

When I installed my ATS 6 puck clutch I noticed that I had to adjust my all the way out as the engagement point was like through the floor. After research I found that if I was to install the gen2 smaller bore slave cylinder, I would get more throw due to the smaller bore size. Which could make sense as the ATS clutch is suited to the gen2 mr2 which is what USA got across their 90+ production years (so I believe)

So I would expect if you installed the smaller bore slave and still have a factory clutch it may feel different, and maybe if you are upgrading clutchs it may help out the the heaftier pressure plates.

Cheers
Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Reddtarga)

There is a thread on MR2OC about fitting a single input Camry clutch slave, (I think it is 20.64m) to get rid of the twin bleed pipes, making a neater installation as well as to get more clutch movement for a given pedal travel.
But of course the connections also need to be changed.
If you haven't already seen it, check out:
http://www.mr2oc.com/61-3sgte-turbo/203563-single-port-clutch-slave-cylinder.html

Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Nik_Lee)

I didn't need to readjust anything, once I bled it up it as all spot on so this is another reason why I wonder if it possibly had the wrong one in previously.
With the clutch master cyl there seems to be only one bore size, I just did a parts search on toyodiy and it gave me the same part number when I searched NA or Turbo cars.
Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Falcon)

Hi Nik.
Thanks. It could be the explanation as to why some of the swaps don't work so well.
Did you need to readjust the pedal to get the freeplay etc correct again?
Interesting but not surprising that the bite point moved.
Next Q. Is there only one bore diam. for all the clutch master cylinders ?? (Turbo, NA.) -( Pre 93, Later Models) ??
Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Nik_Lee)

Hi Guys,

So I replaced both the slave and master cyl in my car I put in the 20.64mm slave cyl that I was told should be the size my car needs, after bleeding the clutch system the peddle feel was a lot better (slightly firmer) and the clutch take up point was further away from the floor then it had been previously.
Once I had the car up and running I measured the diameter of the old slave cyl that came out of the car which was 22.22mm, so I am curious now if the slave cyl had been changed by a previous owner at some stage of if this was the size from factory? Currently though I am happy with the feel of the 20.64mm slave cyl over the 22.22mm that was in the car previously.

Cheers
Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Nik_Lee)

Hi Doug,

Yep no problem at all I can do that.

Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Falcon)

Hi Nik.
Could you let us know the size of the original one in your car when it comes out as this could help explain the problems sometimes experienced in these swaps etc. Would be much appreciated.
Thanks Doug.
Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Nik_Lee)

Well I hope the one I ordered is the right one and that the cross reference was correct.

Thanks for all the input guys I will keep you updated once the parts arrive.

Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Reddtarga)

FWIW, my '90 model ADM uses a 22.2 mm diam clutch slave.
Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Falcon)

It is off a 94 model but it may not be original either.
It was the only one available to measure.
Re: Late Model E153 Slave Cyl Help (Peter)

Hi Nik,
I reckon that I have my old internals, which I replaced about 6 months ago.
