I would of thought any electronic gauge you buy will come with its own sensor to drive it, while you probably could knock something up something to drive the gauge if the map output was different it would just be unnecessary.

I'm interested in fitting one of these now actually, I did have a white face 52mm one to fit in a triple cluster where the centre vents were but replacing the stock gauge frees a space up, plus the ergonomics of it are better. Just need to find one with a white dial.

I see some gauges provide their own sensor and this led me to the different voltages put out by 1-bar, 2-bar and
3-bar MAPs. Then onto calibrating the MAP with the ECU. Not to mention comments that the MAp's function is to cut fuel at some point. So I am quite confused.
Does a gauge with a similar scale as the stock SW20 gauge have the same voltage requirements ? ie can use the OEM MAP ?

I read that the OEM boost gauge in the 91 SW20s is poor,(slow, inaccurate ?) so I want to replace it. I see opinions vary between electronic and vacuum hose, but I saw a side by side comparison that showed 2 that performed similarly.
Q1. Is the OEM MAP sensor ok? or is it part of why the OEM gauge performs poorly ? If it is ok, and supplies accurate voltage then I think for ease of installation, I would lean towards electronic.

Q2. I would also like to mount the gauge in the instrumentation panel where the OEM gauge is. Presuming some of you have done this, are you able to recommend a gauge (size also) for this?

Go an electronic one, they are a 45mm in size. Quite expensive though, either a Defi or Omori, is what I would recommend.
I think ebay used to sell cheaper versions out of UK 'Prosport' for approx $100.

Very easy to install, have done a few myself without any issues, they look great in the factory location also.
