I suggest you treat the airbag as though it is armed and dangerous until proved otherwise. As best as I can figure it
Toyota used different inertia type sensors located in different places. So try to read up on it and be bloody careful anywhere around the steering column, lower centre dash etc. If in doubt disconnect the battery!
I haven't pulled the trigger to find out but Ive been assured that mine is active.

Stock MR2s just have so much charm about them, and yours looks fantastic
What are your plans for the car? A few serviceable items replaced, then you'll have the perfect P plater car! Couldn't of wished for a better P plate legal car than my 94 Bathy to be honest

As of now, I'm just saving up for better rims, a new headunit and possibly a new sound system completely

ARegoli One airbag, no ABS, no power-steering.

Just for the record, although the Bathurst has an airbag in the steering wheel, it isn't actually connected to anything (unless it was added as an option by the original buyer)! I think working airbags only became mandatory after 1998, but before that, Toyota didn't fit any impact sensors in the Bathurst's – and if you look inside the steering wheel, you'll probably find it isn't actually wired up. All part of keeping it as lightweight as possible.

It may not be the fastest MR2 variant, but for me, the non-abs, non-power steering, no-airbag, NA Revision 3 SW20R is the pick of the crop. You're really lucky to have found one that hadn't been destroyed by bad mods too.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the 'closed door respray' actually cost, and where did you get it done?

Oh really? So essentially that means the airbag is useless then...

The respray was worth $8000-9000, but because I did it through a family friend, he got it done for $4600, which is all I could afford at my age. It was a full R&R respray and they did a really good job as well

"Red was the original colour, but yes am very happy. Beforehand it had clearcoat peeling on a few panels, but now it looks amazing. Real headturner!

This is my N/A 1997 Toyota MR2 SW20 Bathurst Edition. I've owned it since January, but honestly I was too ashamed to upload any photo's as the paint work was terrible. HOWEVER, after quite an expensive (for me anyway) closed-door respray, I'm finally proud to show my MR2 to fellow MR2 enthusiasts.

She's completely stock, only got 166,000KM on the clock and runs perfectly. One airbag, no ABS, no power-steering.
I'm hoping to get new rims (maybe SSR's or Workmeisters) as soon as I can afford them. Let me know what you guys think!
