It will be used with an M48 ecu if that makes any difference.

You would have to find out from motec what type of trigger wheels are supported and sensors. When I built my Z I used a Wolf ECU an fitted a trigger wheel to the crank pulley. Was a 6 cylinder so had 3 teeth and a pair of teeth to mark top dead centre. Used a hall effects sensor to detect on the falling edge. Different senor types have different response times and accuracy. I'd image the motec would be configurable too much like the wolf was. Also my trigger wheel had adjustable slots so you could set up TDC perfectly.
Re: How to choose trigger wheel for COP setup? (Knightrous)

An easy option is to machine a tooth off your exhaust cam pulley.
This will make it a 36-1 patter (36 teeth with 1 missing), running at cam speed makes it a usable trigger for sequential injection/ignition with just a single sensor.

How to choose trigger wheel for COP setup?
