Some later models such as Speed, Trendline and Sportline have an entirely different bottom which is made from a plastic shell as opposed to the old design which uses a rubber diaphragm. The plastic shell design protrudes from the bottom of the seat and the OEM rails do not have enough clearance to bolt up, nor does the bolt pattern match.

Old design:

New design:

Luckily Recaro Japan makes rails for the MR2 that fits these newer seats but they cost a pretty penny. The part numbers are 2080.142.1 2080.142.2 for left and right respectively. I'm currently sourcing these base frames from Idealseat in Mordialloc.

In conclusion, if you want to use the OEM MR2 rails, you will have to stick to the older Recaro design. To this end, these types of seats were shipped as factory standard in cars as late as Evo VIII and DC5 Integra.

Re: (maccardo94)

Dude I have this exact same problem in my recaro lxs..i love them too much to swap them put..might just get it patched

Re: Factory RECARO rails compaitibility (dasic1)

Yes they are

Re: Factory RECARO rails compaitibility (MaXim)

excellent, thanks guys :) Were the SR seats bottom mounted?
Re: Factory RECARO rails compaitibility (Mrskylighter)

Can confirm this also as I bought a pair of brand new Recaro rails for my SW20 and bolted in SR seats.
Re: Factory RECARO rails compaitibility (dasic1)

Yes the rails of the factory Recaros will bolt on the SR seats
Factory RECARO rails compaitibility (MaXim)

Calling all recaro experts.

Considering seat options and I currently have the factory RECARO LX fishnets. The driver's side fabric is ripped and the foam is basically crumbling so it's going to need replacement/restoration soon.

Will the factory rails be compatible with SR/SRD seats from a similar era? Are there different types of factory RECARO rails for the Mk2?
