Was doing complete fluid change and got sick of pumping. So put the T piece in near the squeezer, connected another long hose and hooked it up to the inlet manifold. Started the engine and bingo, just made the task so much easier and quicker!

Obviously need to watch so you don't make the little catch container too full and suck fluid into the intake but it's easy to keep an eye on. A more fool proof solution would be to insert another catch container in line to the intake.

Cheers

Re: Clutch pedal got soft (Reddtarga)

Bluewater

Reddtarga

Yes definitely get the proper 10 mm spanner for the clutch line flare nuts from somewhere like Repco. (see pic)

Also I would recommend checking out suction bleeding for easy bleeding of both clutch and brakes.

This allows one man bleeding, and there are a variety of kits available to do it.

You can make these yourself out of cheap old spammers. Cutting wheel grinder. Cut small gap in spanner to fit over the brake and or clutch lines. **** load cheaper then buying one, and piss easy 1-3min job.

You need to realize that the proper spanner will be hexagonal and not 12 sided like most ring spanners, and not only that it will be MUCH thicker.
With REALLY TIGHT flare nuts that could be the difference between burring or not, and crying for 2 weeks.
Re: Clutch pedal got soft (artymr2)

I finally got to use the vacuum bleeder to do a flush on a prado. My understanding is that during "normal" bleeding the fluid in the abs does not get completely flushed? Is that correct?

Cheers

Re: Clutch pedal got soft (Reddtarga)

If you don't have a compressor maybe go for something like this:
(I have used this type with great success)
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hand-Held-Brake-Bleeder-Tester-Set-Bleed-Kit-Vacuum-Pump-Car-Motorbike-Bleeding-/251938967458

Apart from bleeding, suction units great when you want to completely replace the brake or clutch fluid.
But the only catch with the unit like the one above, is that you have to carefully watch the tiny clutch reservoir doesn't empty or you'll have to start all over.

The type that work with a compressor as shown in 5SGTE's post generally have an automatic reservoir top up bottle that makes it very easy to totally flush the system.

Re: Clutch pedal got soft (RICHIE)

Awesome☺

Re: Clutch pedal got soft (5SGTE)

Maybe even google diy vac bleeder for some other cheap n easy ideas.

Re: Clutch pedal got soft (5SGTE)

I've got this sidchrome unit which works well, I have a mate who's used an eBay one (~$35) with success.

Re: Clutch pedal got soft (artymr2)

Good thinking re suction bleeding, must check them out, would be handy if no help around. If you are going to replace it (which I suggest you do seeing as its not too expensive) bolt it up to the lines first then just spend 2 hours under the car trying to get the bolts into the box, don't bolt it to the box then try to hook up the lines.

Those 2 metal lines are a PITA, but I suppose 2 are needed for proper bleeding.
When I did this job, I fitted the lines but, but I backed off all 4 flare nuts a half or turn or so with the pipe clamp loose as well.
I think doing that made it easier to fit the 2 slave mounting bolts.
Then I finally tightened the 4 flare nuts and the pipe clamp, but that needed to be done from both the bottom and the top of the engine bay.

Re: Clutch pedal got soft (RICHIE)

☺thanks

Re: Clutch pedal got soft (Reddtarga)

Yes definitely get the proper 10 mm spanner for the clutch line flare nuts from somewhere like Repco. Also it probably go's without saying but use a flare spanner for the clutch line bolts, nothing else. If you use an open ender and round it you'll cry for the 2 weeks it takes to order new lines in.

Go do some yoga to get calm and flexible and best of luck!
