Cheers guys.

Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (Reddtarga)

FWIW.
I believe you really only need a flexible cable end bush (OEM rubber, spherical or poly) on the lower cable at the transmission end that is related to the forward and backwards movement of the gear stick.
Because the selector shaft geometry is a compromise, that cable flexes sideways at the transmission end, and is the one that tends to break, so a flexible bush helps. It is also claimed that a flexible bush like OEM or poly (but not spherical) will put less shock on your syncros.

The upper cable (related to the side to side movement of the gear stick) doesn't flex sideways like the lower cable, so a cheap ($5) sealed skateboard bearing will do fine there and can give a more positive stick feel.
That cable end is also up high so it is well protected from the mud splash.
Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (dodgee)

Better to get it sorted before you head to Wakefiel Park.
Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (Lumix)

dodgee
Had mine made by Elastomers Queensland, from memory $50 for 2.

I will drop by their shop on my lunch break and get them to make me up a set in the softer poly to try out.

Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (dodgee)

Had mine made by Elastomers Queensland, from memory $50 for 2.
Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (Peter)

Hi again,
Mine are the BRDs & as Lumix has said, they are quite rigid.
Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (dodgee)

I tried the GEBK8S bearings. Did a run Brisbane to Wakefied Park two track days and back to Brissy, bearings were worn out and I had back off gear lever rattle in 3rd from the start. I had some softer poly bushes made up off the black poly ones as I believed they were too hard. Softer poly I find is much easier shifting and no back off gear shake. Going to have a look at them today or tomorrow to see how the wear is. Probably done less than 2k since they went in.
Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (Lumix)

Update:

Currently installed: CRW spherical kit
GEBK8S bearing
BRD poly bush kit

CRW kit needs to be packed out with a bunch of washes that are not included in the kit, for the money you pay for a 'custom' item, the washers should fit perfect/or extras included with varying thickness. If you do not pack it with washes, I believe it causes shifter shake in 3rd gear on let off (higher rpm). I have already replaced one spherical bearing due to wear on the bearing (I daily drive my car approx 10-15k km a year). With that said - shifting feels nice and smooth in all gears.

GEBK8S bearing - maybe I got a duds with my eBay purchase but my bearings arrived with play. Never installed them due to poor quality. They could wear out a lot quicker than the CRW kit due to the brass sleeve.

BRD poly bush kit (UK), very well made poly bush kit, perfect fit and included all the hardware. I was hoping for a softer poly but it was very hard. In my opinion It made shifting from neutral to 1st gear very stiff due to the bush not flexing to the cable angle. I found the shifting from 1st to 2nd stiff. I liked how the bush felt from 3rd to 4th and 5th to reverse. I drove for about 2 weeks on this kit and swapped back to spherical. I did not get 3rd gear shifter shake on lift off using this kit, possibly due to a perfect fitting bush?

I would like to try a softer poly or softer poly/rubber and brass insert combo to replicate how it was from factory.

Just my thoughts.
Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (kojab)

Thanks Peter and 5SGTE will give the GEBK8S speherical bearings a go.
Re: WTB: Spherical bearing shift cable bushings kit (5SGTE)

GEBK8S spherical bearing.
