I forgot to mention that make sure you fit the check valve the right way around because it must hold the vacuum in the booster reservior.

As far as I know the 'fat' boosters were only on early model JDM models about 1990, and the check valve will be mounted on the booster body on those and I doubt if you could use it anyway with a later booster.

All the other boosters are 'slimline'
They all look the same except that the '90 model ADM cars had a 'slimline' booster with the check valve mounted on the booster body. They only used a 7/8 "M/C

Later boosters only have a hose neck connector on the booster body (see pic) and they all used a 15/16" M/C
With those, the check valve is mounted in the engine bay on the intake manifold.
I believe that probably was done to give more volume to the vacuum system.

You can buy a 10 mm check valve that you should be able to easily insert into your existing vacuum hose on the manifold.
My car is an NA I have done that myself. I also have a later model booster with a Supra 1'' M/C
BTW, horrible brakes without the check valve as you can imagine, and there have been posts on the forum about that.

A check valve like this should fit, although I used a Honda one that looks about the same.

Maybe best to look for one fitted after 11/93 - they are more powerful than the ones fitted after '92 when the larger brakes first came in.

I did notice lots of different part numbers on various slimline boosters.
I was told that the most important thing is for the booster to be the slimline shape, but I should look for the latest one I can find.

Thanks for that. I heard something about the check valve but I didn't know any specifics.

EDIT: I saw some part number diagrams of the brake booster and vacuum lines for the early and later model SW20s, and I could see that the check valve only exists in the later model diagram as you described. It looked like it would be located on the firewall, not so much 'on' the intake manifold, but either way it should be easy to confirm so I'll have a look tonight and confirm if there is no check valve in the engine bay of my car.

I'm looking for a later model SW20 'slim' brake booster to replace the original 'fat' one in my 1990 SW20 turbo.

I have big brake upgrades installed front and rear, and I've already bought a new 1 inch master cylinder, so now I just need a suitable brake booster to complete the upgrade.

I'm located in Sydney and I'm hoping to find one of these in Australia instead of having to buy one from overseas.

Has anyone got something suitable?

I found a suitable booster on eBay, but it's in Hong Kong, so I'll wait a few days in case someone else in Aus has one.
