I've got ecu wiring diagrams if you need them. I can email them to you if you'd like. I found most of the wiring pretty straightforward. I'd would've loved to help, but I'm 1600kms or so away.

Hi Guys

Just got a beams from a 1998 Celica on its way, planning to swap to my 1995 MR2 SW20 3sge. Would be keen to get advice from members that have done the swap, particularly the wiring. Anybody in Melbourne able to help with the wiring?

The conversion was done using the transistor & relay coil with pullup resistor to take the tacho signal up to 12V so that the original dash tacho would work, from what i have read (as the signal originally came from the igniter rather than the ECU). This should also have allowed the a/c amplifier to recognise that the engine was turning too, but for some reason this is not working properly. i think it may be a faulty a/c amplifier, but haven't got around to testing this theory. The fan activity is fairly erratic too - i know the engine temp is solid as i replaced the thermostat, but the fans are mostly on, so again i suspect a faulty a/c amp.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'the tacho signal has bee boosted' . All that's required is a resistor in the tacho from memory. I didn't need to do that though as I got the Beams cluster with my half cut. My air-con just worked when I did the swap, so I haven't needed to do anything with it.
It's great to know that your car is still being looked after, there's not many Beams MR2's around.

sorry about the delay! yes, that's the beast!
nothing external changed except the front lip is now black - easier to repaint as it takes a hiding in normal use.

pretty much fixed all the problems listed in the sale notice you found, plus now has standard front springs (again, lowering battered the front lip!). Only outstanding problem is the A/C which i had pipes made and re-gassed recently, but it is still not functioning properly - not sure if this is an a/c amplifier problem or something else. the beams ECU signal has been boosted to drive the tacho, so should work with the a/c amplifier too. but alas it doesn't.

Stock? yes, i suppose it is sort of 'stock'! 1990 chassis, 1994/8 panels resprayed metallic blue, 1999 beams red top engine and later rear suspension, gen2 front brakes, standard springs & shocks, prothane bushings, TRD rear strut brace, UR front strut brace, R32 rims, Potenzas all round, fog lights (modded to driving lights & separately switchable - not on high beam so can be used to flash people), blue LED mods in dash, heater and window controls, blue faced clock... mostly stock!

Sounds nice, do you have a showroom thread, or pics of your car?

I'm that 'guy in Tasmania' with the ex-hayhow (jaemus) beams...!!!

It's my daily drive, still going strong and often still brings a smile to my face when i'm out and about.

Is yours all stock?
