Thanks IMR22C - I will check out what khanacross is about - sounds like dirt ??? and my son's car is a day2day registered car. (Mind you, when he gets his P's he won't be allowed to drive it - he will take my Camry and unfortunately I'll have to drive his for a couple of years....oh well, someone has to do it)

They can be ran as tarmac, dirt, or mixed events.

Khanacross or skidpan events would be good if he's learning to drive, and not just learning to drive faster.
My reasoning is that although Wakefield is a relatively safe track, it would be easy to get the speed up to a point where he could get himself in trouble.

It's also abit of travel depending where you're from.

I suppose it comes down to your situation.

Just look into a speed off the streets day at wakefield park. Almost all registered cars that drive there for the day. put into groups with a beginners group. Up to 15? cars on track but Not racing just circulating at your own speed and only allowed to pass on straights. Best way to get a feel for your car have some fun and go out once an hour for 15 minutes so it gives you time to make changes/check things and try out in next session.

You have plenty of time to plan ahead.Yes there are some quick cars but after three years and no incidents, something must be right.
The experts are easy to spot. One is the IPRA state champion who also doubles as the resident mechanic. Im 2016 there are more who are interested in being part of the event.

Seems the Challenges are once a year and I've missed it for 2015. (and there are some MR2s with 600Hp !!)
I'll check out ECk to see if they have open days .

Thanks Steve, I will check out the Challenge threads and depending on availability and money, will likely attend one before eoy. They seem to meet most of our needs plus guarantee a good time, and hopefully some good advice. Always a challenge at a BBQ weeding out the experts from the ...um, experts.

You'd be better off going to a khanacross. Only one car on the track at a time and the speed is kept down <100kph.

*edit* You wouldn't really be able to do any suspension setup though.

Hello Nigel,

Every track has practice days where you can go there at your leisure for practice and tuning. Just need to look up your local track to see what days suit best.
The MR2 Trackday Challenge is as crazy at it seems. There are plenty of sessions to just set up the car and drive different layouts for the benefit of the driver. Also plenty of passenger sessions/training sessions to develop the driver along with plenty of theory/chin wagging after the days driving at the BBQ.
If you do join us, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Hi,
I am looking for some track time where I can set up my son's SW20 suspension and teach him how to drive.
I see the Challenge Day threads but expect the track is fully occupied with serious intent. Are there any sort of track days where people circulate without racing ? Maybe there is a thread here for that ???
