(t0me)

Sorry, I should have replied earlier. It was a permanent power wire that was needed, I think to the rear sub that I didn't realise I had. Replaced that anyway but that was the issue with the wiring.
I then discovered one of the door speakers was stuffed anyway so replaced them too so none of the factory gear is in use anymore.
Re: Stereo wiring issues? (t0me)

Hiya, just bought an SW-20 1990 2.0 NA MR2 yesterday.
Pulled the broken original tape/radio out and bought a sony head unit to replace it.
The wiring's the 14 pin single plug Japanese type. Found some wiring info -
Which matches what I have, and the stereo lights up, seeks, finds radio, but no output to the speakers.
I salvaged the plug from the old radio and wired it in, gave up on that and have been splicing directly now and still can't get it to ouput to the speakers. I tested the radio output, its fine. I can't work out the speakers.

From the info I have, pins 5,6,13,14 are all positives and pin 11 a common ground, that doesn't produce any ouput though.
I'd rather just use the original speakers to save costs, and though it only got AM the old radio did make some noise so I believe the speakers are in working order...
Is this a catch for the new players? I didn't find anything in the forum about it in a quick scan.

None of my local car places had a suitable adapter (they all had the 2 plug type)...
I tried testing wires with an output, nothing produced any noise from the speakers.
I guess my next step is to pull the door trim and try a speaker directly, though as they're splits the impedance won't be right.

Any idea's?

Cheers,
Tom
ps. I'm in Gosnells WA if anyone's local and full bottle on it.
