Here's a little read on what happens http://www.spyderchat.com...friction-point-relearn and with 98 000 on it I'd say it's due for a new one.
But Terry is the pro so if unsure I'd go with him! While it's in the shop get him to change smt fluid. I change mine least once a year especially after I've done a track day just to be on safe side.

Re: 2002 Spyder Clutch replacement (Tiraden)

hi,
Yeah normal sequential no clutch pedal, driving thru CBD on monday, all of a sudden no power on left hand merge, revs spiked and nothing i did helped... pulled over turned him off and there was a hot/burnt rubber smell... let him cool right down started him and no smell and he drove fine... came home left him over night. went to go out tuesday arvo and no power again.. spoke to my usual mechanic and he said he thought burnt out clutch. I don't want to use Toyota if I can avoid, had been doing some online research when a link to this fourm showed up... I'm glad to have found it...
Re: 2002 Spyder Clutch replacement (Falcon)

That price is way high IF it is just to replace the clutch. T Dealerships are not really the best shops for these cars as most of their mechanics have no experience with them and don't like working on them. Hence cranky mechanic. Poor quality work. Expand a bit on the symptoms and the type of transmission. Is it the normal sequential with no clutch pedal? Is it a burnt out /worn out clutch or problems with the hydraulic actuators? etc. Is it still driveable to a workshop? Phone some manual transmission / clutch places for service and parts or DIY.
Re: 2002 Spyder Clutch replacement (Tiraden)

Thanks so much, Terry is calling me when he gets in... have a great day
Re: 2002 Spyder Clutch replacement (sweeetpete)

Sounds like crazy talk to me. Terry at Road and Track at ipswich is a Spyder expert but clutch should be no different than other cars.
2002 Spyder Clutch replacement (Tiraden)

Hi All, I'm new to this group. I bought my MR2 in October last year... (love it.. so happy to finally own one) he has 98 000kms and is a 2002 spyder... clutch has died, Toyota in Brisbane have quoted $3300.00 to fix and 6 - 8 weeks turnaround ( parts ordered in from Japan) I was wondering if anyone in this group had any recommendations on the quoted price, any other good mechanics in (inner Brisbane south side) Any and all suggestions appreciated... have a fantastic day
