I think disconnecting the temp sensor in the engine lid gets the intercooler fan to run all the time that should tell you if its working

Yes Exactly. Nothing much to worry about. Possibly the sensor on engine bonnet or the wiring in that area.

Just bought a sw20 but have just noticed a warning light come up, i dont have the owners manual and couldn't find one on the net so far.
it is red on the right hand side of the cluster and looks like a fan infront of an engine? have checked the radiator fans which work but have not seen the engine bay fan come on - could it be that?
