Even though it may not have rego, it is a NSW registered vehicle. You'll have less mucking around when it comes to putting rego back on.
Would be a fun road trip to drive it back home.

A friend mentioned tonight that he'd bought a car from VIC without rego & was able to get a special rego thingy to drive it from there to Home in NSW. It would probably work the same from QLD to NSW too, wouldn't it?
