I wouldn't use it on a perfectly good box.

Personally never tried Castrol vmx80, but did use a similar nulon straight 80. Wasn't happy with the results on a dying e153 as it was too heavy cold & too light when warm.

Re: Gear oil change (Head gasket)

I will steer clear of ATF . I've read a couple times that even though it
Is recommended not to use it.. Ill have a look at the easy shift from caltex first
Run it for 1-2 thou if I don't like it ill change to castrol vmx 80
And do the same and if I don't like that ill go to redline.. If I don't like that
I have a shotgun, any volunteers? I'd start with the Caltex oil & see how you go. If the box is on its way out, you can try an ATF (Dextron III) to prolong a transmission rebuild.
Re: Gear oil change (Head gasket)

2nd and 3rd are generally quite notchy. My tranny didn't last long with mt90. Heard a few common experiences around the globe too.

Suggest something like Caltex Easyshift which is GL4 75/90. Spot on for the E153 from my experience.

Factory LSD is viscous / sealed unit. Main reason I never went for an aftermarket mechanical lsd is the difficulty finding a suitable tranny fluid to satisfy both diff & gears.
