Another happy customer for the MR2 forum!!
Pleased that it's all good. Cheapest parts fix known at about 60cents!! (plus the x hours labour removing and replacing every dash panel and the cluster)...

just did it, works good just revving in the garage need to take it for a drive tomorrow and test it properly, but so far so good.

You wouldn't have any pics would you? Were the caps attached to the tacho when you removed it or were they still on the instrument cluster?

I used a 50v 10uF cap and it works aswell, a bit easier to find too in my experience

Chris, I've got the tacho out but the only caps I can find that size isnt behind the tacho, I'll post some pics if I can work it out

I guess it's the cheaper option to try first!
The two caps are 25v 10uF electrolytics - eg:

Note they are polarity sensitive - must go in the correct way (+ve and -ve) - sorry if I'm telling you stuff you know already.

No I don't have a spare unfortunately, that's what I was worried about , going though all the effort of replacing the cap only find find its still not working, do you know what size the capacitors are?

As mentioned in the other post, there are three fine bolts which hold the tacho onto the circuit board. They also provide the electrical signals for it. These are identified on the circuit board as IG- IG+ and SE. Remove them and the tacho will fall out the front ( carefull!).
If someone can tell me how to post pictures I will - perhaps a separate tutorial on the capacitor replacement might help a few people....
If you've got access to an automotive multimeter with a tacho setting use the diag plug first to make sure you're getting a signal - but it is most likely the tacho itself ( got a spare?), or possibly the capacitor(s) which are not too difficult to replace if you have some basic soldering skills.
Look for the two little blue cylinders sitting on the tacho circuit board. Bad ones often look like they are very dirty.

Yeah I was looking on YouTube but only found one for replacing the Speedo cap.
Do you know if it's hard to get that out of the dash? Have you seen any how to's on getting it out?

Might be a capacitor on the back of the board. If you look it up on Google there is a couple of tutorials on how to replace it :)

I recently bought a 90 model GT as a bit of a project.
I noticed the rev tacho does move, does anyone have any ideas as to what to look at first ?
