I want to try to update my 97 to the 98/99 spec, so i'll be looking for a steering wheel and gear knob with red stitching later on....
Re: Beams Instrument cluster. (MANDALAY)

I should have the part number somewhere. At worst case you can quote my VIN and you will get the correct part as my car is a 1999 Aussie model
Red Lettering is nice

As is the TRD steering Wheel.

Having shift lights is a bonus , no need to look at the Taco

Re: Beams Instrument cluster. (rikkir)

Thanks Mandalay,

It looks like i'll use the cluster supplied with the car and get a new Toyota speedo then.
I just need to find the correct part number for the speedo.
Re: Beams Instrument cluster. (MANDALAY)

The factory Beams cluster is red lettering so any late Aussie model car you can swap as it has the red lettering.

However the main difference is that the Taco. You need to use the Beams one so just swap it over. The taco is what has real value as new ones cant be bought from Japan any more. The speedo is easy , Toyota still has them.

FYI also depending which modle car you have the wiring to the dash is different. The Beams car ran all the wires to the kick panel whereas the Aussie cars run several wires in the center tunnel to the dash. So the wires that will need to be identified are

Fuel pump,
A/C
A/C ACC
Taco
Speedo

and also take the bulb out of the oil level low as it will light up as the Beams engine and all post engines Toyota removed the float from the sump
Re: Beams Instrument cluster. (Mrskylighter)

Well in that case your options are:

use your current white markings 260km cluster as is and sell the red one
Use the red 180km JDM cluster as is
Use the red cluster with a white 260/300km speedo section
And FYI the red cluster came in both the turbo and NA revision 5 cars. They are the same with the exception of the small center gauge. Turbo has a boost gauge and NA a voltmeter (you can swap these around also)
Re: Beams Instrument cluster. (rikkir)

Thanks Carmikey,
Is it a Beams cluster? I couldn't find a mention of the cluster on the post. My existing cluster is an electronic one in a 97 SW20, so it may be suitable, but i'd like the later one with the red markings if i can get one.
