Sometimes the teeth file down and wont push the pins far enough. If you have tried that might be time to get a professional in could save you damaging something else. Call an automotive locksmith, they should be able to tell you if this is common and possible reasons.

So I used original key to start with. When that didn't work I went to a locksmith and asked them to make a copy of the key hoping that the code written on the side of the key was meaningful. They made a key for me, and it did not work on anything (doors/ignition)...
Re: MR2 key no longer turns ignition on (track_mr2)

I'm confused, did you get a spare key made to try to turn it or have you only tried with the one key? But it won't budge. I have put WD40 through it, wiggled the steering wheel, tapping the front of the barrel and even got another key made supposedly off the code written on the side of my key. All of these have failed. MR2Aus, can you please help me?

I don't have a spare key either, unfortunately. At this point I am thinking about calling a mobile locksmith to come and fix it, but the cost of this solution is quite frightening (been quoted $250+) given the situation.

Does anyone have any ideas??

Cheers
