microsquirt with a boost controller solenoid and shipping from the US comes out at 440USD which seems amazing value (i already have a 3 bar GM map sensor and wideband)

Have you got someone in mind to tune the car once you get the ECU? If so, see what they are comfortable with tuning and go from there.

For ~US$800 (~500GPB) you could use a MSPNP from DIY Auto Tune.

I'm in the uk and there is a poor choice of reasonable price ecu's over here so thought I would try posting here as I know you have a reasonable choice of entry level used ecu's to suit the 3sgte.
