https://www.motoring.com.au/ford-falcon-xa-gt-rpo-83-hardtop-goes-to-auction-125304/

3 0 1  THOUSAND BUCKS PLUS SOME $22,000 IN COMMISSION TO "GRAYS"

FOR A RUST RIDDEN, PANEL DINTED, INTERIOR ROTTEN, ALL-OVER DAMAGED COUPE WHOSE ENGINE COULDN'T BE
STARTED !  ........  AND no guarantee it has Discs on the rear as you'd expect in a RPO83 (hope it has; for the buyers sake)
What exclusivity that comes with this car DOES NOT AMOUNT TO EVEN $100,000 imho

Its a myth XA GT RPO 83 all had disk brakes on the rear

Its a myth all the XA GT RPO 83 all had the same extra left over homologation phase 4 parts.

Some got more parts than the others that are given the RPO 83 option.

Regarding authentic Bernie, a quick phone call to Ford would verify the cars options as unlike Capri's, Ford Australia keep the Falcon Production Records.

But thats is always up for debate and prob best left for discussion on the Falcon forums etc.

Regarding price, this was a very well known car with the collector / Falcon GT circles and thus created some hype when it was sold.

Is it worth the sale price, who knows but at the end of the day something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it

Maybe Bernie you should sell one of your other cars via Greys auction to fund the restoration of your Capri.

It was the unicorn no one could catch, I think the value was in the bragging rights.
An interesting article on its twin, the other McRoberstons Old Gold Orange car

Why? The survivor car market is strong. Can't see the point plowing all that cash into something that wouldn't command any more premium when the dust settles. They're only original once.

I dont sell cars .....  My D-port Capri will be restored when it's time to do so, if ever, without funding from any other car.......... Anything is ORIGINAL only ONCE.

Most of the GT's had a 750 cfm carby. I had a 351 2v with a mid range cam which ran fine on a 600 4 barrel with vacuum secondaries,( fuel economy LOL ) occasionally used a 650 DP for a bit more go. Depends on what you want the car to do- 850 is pretty much race carburation. Len

Almost got the perfect licence plate for it from the DOT -733FP9- bugger , they don't do plates with 3 letters anymore.

Speaking of licence plates, on a recent trip to Townsville, I'm now retired in Bowen, a couple of hours south, found the licence plate ending in FP5 I would have liked to have gotten- unfortunately it's on a late model Patrol LOL. Have had little to do on the car cosmetically, got some custom seat covers made to protect the interior from our wonderful UV up here, most work has been mechanical- has not been looked after very well. Cleaned up oil leaks, power steering and front shocks, wheel alignment and balance and got new rear drive shafts installed.
Going to get new plugs fitted next week, it uses the Iridium ones and source the rattle in the timing chains, hopefully just guides and tensioners.
Access is a bugger , so getting local mechanic to do the job. Car is my daily driver so not willing to tackle the job, some special tools required as well. The RS was a much simpler car to work on......oh well.  Len
