I have 15" rims from a Saab on mine to save the race tyres but I definitely prefer the 13" Globes.

I'll put up a better pick of the 15"s with the car painted and with stripes.

Looks the goods! Do the tyres rub on the guards at all?

an interesting old thread, but good timing.
Wheels are hard to get right I reckon.
Some deep dish wheels have the wrong lip profile for my liking, too square.
I might need to order some wheels soon, heres 2 examples, 13's and 15 by my guess.
The 15's look spot on for what Im after, but do they look staggered?
Anyone want to take a stab what the sizes/offsets  might be?
Some of the 15"minilights Ive seen have a very large diameter mounting face, and comparitively short spokes (Performance brand), and they remind me of grannys teeth. Not a look im going for, but its all personal. Compomotive seem much more agressive. Too many options to try and get the right ones.
Globes were mentioned above, I have a set above if they suit anyones project.
And just to show size is relative, an original Ford ad for their 'fatwheels', back with 5.5" was big enough

Yes agree this is a great thread!

Ive gone from 13s to 15s and tbh i love them both, but very happy with my simmons in 15s. I aimed for 15x7 with a offset of +12 to get fitment all round on a stock body, I had to downsize my fronts to 6.5 as it was a little too close to the coil over helper spring. Easily done as the wheels were apart. (Can suss my thread to see my journey making them fit).

I think the first pic, orange wagon are a bit too much, too much dish. Id assume these have a negative offset which allows them to achieve the dish. tbh if the dish was stepped a bit i think it would look better.

I love the second wagon, Yes definately staggered sizes on there, id assume 15x7 fronts and 15x8 rear, offset no idea. Depending where your getting the wheels from some places will let you pick your offset. Being arched i have no idea but you should be able to run some large wheels with ease.

that might be a great deal Doug, but as most of us are in AU, that adds 300 pounds for shipping, so you are at 750 pounds.

For us in real money, thats $1,485.00 AU for 5 tyres, plus GST, plus import....
If you can do something with exhange rates and shipping, i'd be after 4 x 205/60/R13's.... :)

I mean they would be super cool though! It would be interesting to see how they stack up vs modern tread.

funny you should ask that however check this out.

https://www.cinturato.net/images/test-classic-tyres-0716.pdf

This is the Pirelli CN36 and the Michelin XWX being independently tested by a German Classic car magazine. they are testing them against 2 modern tyres.

Is this an Austrailian forum? anyway in Austrailia you buy them from Stuckey tyres. he is the Austrailian distributor of the Pirelli Collezione Range

https://www.stuckey.com.au/Tyres/TyreSearch/ProdID/134

He also has stock of the 175/70VR13 Cinturato CN36 that was OE on Mexico and RS cars, and the 185/70R13 that was OE on Capri and Cortina.

These are the best road tyres for your cars. I know there is this view that bigger is better, which is why there is a temptation to fit 205/60R13 however you have to admit that does not make a very nice tyre for road use. OK if you slam it on the deck and stiffen everything and add some adverse camber, you can maage to keep all that rubber on the track in the corners on a perfectly smooth race track, but they dont make noce road tyres, you are far better off on a period '70s 70% profile tyre that is designed to go on light rear wheel drive cars with a lot of susension travel like your cars.

I'll agree that wider isn't always better, when I drove my MK2 like a loon almost daily I had used different combo tyres and wheels, as well as engine setups over the 10yrs of its daily thrashing. Starting with 7x13 Hotwires with 205x60 it was ok but not real usable. Went to 15x7 with 195x50 but was to heavy and settled with 13x6.5 wheels with 185 65 was the best and still have them

oo 185/65R13 is a little bit too small in diameter. Also that will be a modern carcass that will not suit the geometry of an Escort/light rearr wheel drive car. you will be better off with a tyre that isnt designed to give you ultimate grip, llike that, becasue that isnt what your car is capable of

Any of these will make better road tyres for your car.

155R13 Pirelli Cinturato CA67
165R13 Pirelli Cinturato CN36
175/70R13 Pirelli Cinturato CN36
185/70R13 Pirelli Cinturato CN36

They handle far better on these proper peiod tyres compared to modern tyre carcasses, yes tarmac racing cars did fit 205/60R13 tyres but they were very modified to try to keep the foot print on the road. all sorts of things that make for not a very nice road car. A 185/65R13 modern tyre will put a lot more foot print on the floor than the proper period 185/7VR13 Cinturato CN36, but then as your car leans in cornering it will lift a large portion of that foot print off the road, however the CN36 will start that process earlier, however the effect will never be so drastic.

fitting these proper tyres is to improve the handling.

If it is just for a concourse car then an ny old tyre will do.
