Moving engine forward.

Hi All.
I am considering moving the engine forward in the MK2.
I have a sierra 5 speed and the shifter is a little close to the handbrake.
Has anyone had experience with this?
I have ditched the engine fan and got thermos (needed to set the radiator back a fraction for them) but
without the engine in yet it is hard to know how much room ive got.
Also unsure if there are other issue i have't thought of.
Any help would be great and especially any picks of the distance from water pump to radiator.

    You will probably have clearance issues with your sump and crossmember. Can you have the gear lever bent to give a little more room?

    I agree with Simon that there must be a better way of getting the clearance you need without moving the engine forward as this will cause more problems than it solves.  Can you move the handbrake lever back?

    Asuming this is not a joke question.....
     
    Moving the engine forward will upset the handling, cause the space issues already identified and will then need a longer tailshaft...
    Modifying the shifter as I and most others have done is FAR easier and less problematic , costly and basically better... Normally people want to move the engine back....

    Just my 2.2c worth including GST....

    Ok - see thats why it was good to ask.
    Thanks Simon - i thought of most things (including the tail shaft)
    But i did completely overlook the crossmember.
    How embarrasment.
    I think i'll just put up, the shifter is shortened which excentuates the prob i guess - but i like it.

    Is there such a thing as a short shift kit for the type 9 - I think there is?
    This may make the problem easier to live with although not solving the problem 100%.

    Hi, Have a look at this detailed "how to" http://www.rsmotorsport.com.au/technical/files/Type9toMk2.pdf
    The differance between what is described in this link and what you are doing is this "how to" is with a Automatic tunnel. Still gives you the answers about the gearlever and handbrake and how to make a quick shift. If you are not aware, the automatic tunnel is a lot larger (and is a worthwhile modification) as it allows you to remove / replace the gearbox easily. CheeRS.

    Hi Paul.
    Yes i have quickshift in it which is prob my only saving grace.
    It doesn't actually hit the handabrake.
    It's not such a biggy - i just remember it being very close.
    Since i have cut the shifter right down i might put a long knob on it.
    don't really want to shift the hanbrake too much - want that close

    hi you can move the gear leaver mount on the gearbox---- but is i a bit of nutting out------ but if its done rigth it works well ===  helps if you can cut to shape another one from another tail sharft and you also need to change the rail on make it shouter --- so you need to be able to weld real good know your stuff ---

    easiest way will be to reposition the handbrake...
    the shifter shouldnt foul the handbrake wen its down anyways... jus run a longer stick so ur hands away from it... or as simon said get the shifter bent
