I grabbed a quickshift from Yesterford also.
I'm sure it's the same as you see from uk, but Mikes prices are ok and he has helped me with some other gear.
It looked pretty good quality wise, and I can see what you guys have mentioned regarding how it can be noisy.
I filled the inner shifter cover with a bit of grease, and cable tied the inner cover down tight a bit, hopefully to might dampen the vibrations.
It feels great though, and I cant wait to try it out.
Re:Gearbox removal (Flighter)

I've got a cheap one (rather than a Quaife), and the quality seems very high regardless.
Re:Gearbox removal (deano)

thanks whooligan, but I probably didn't explain that well, and the pick is unclear.

The box type is the same, its the escort one.
With the gear lever stick out, looking into the casing, one side of the case has a boss that limits the sideways movement, but the other side of the casing doesn't. I could feel a sharp fracture where it may have been if it have broken off, but the rocket box picture looks like there's only one anyhow, thus some of the confusion.

In the end, as mentioned I've stuck it back together for know, and plan to order a UK quaife quickshift as suggested when I can find some car dollars. (no Quaife aust dealer?)I will look at it again when its apart, and expect it may just be a case on not wrenching on the gearlever too hard in the future.

thanks all. So from the pic, I have highlighted what felt like was missing from the gearbox extension.
ie. in my extension, there's only one cast tag that the side of the selector lever bottoms sideways against, but from what I could see and how it felt, I think there should have been this stop on each side??

There was a thread on hear also about fitting a quickshift, and I thought from one of those photos it had these lugs on both sides? I stuck it all back, and it seems to shift as expected, but the more I check this car out, the more I'm convinced it was a bitza that has been put back together after having the good bits stripped.

it might be the heat....

Re:Gearbox removal (Flighter)

There's also Castrol VMX 80W for a Type E gearbox, although I suspect it isn't quite as fancy as the Penrite semi-synthetic stuff. Remember: gear oil is just that - suitable for gears. Axles have gears, whereas transmissions have gears AND synchros. That's why you shouldn't use gear oil in your trans - because your synchros will suffer.

Be careful with the rating of transmission oils too, as GL-5 oil has additives that eat brass, which is a definite no-no for older boxes in classic Fords. Penrite's Trans Gear 75W-80 looks to be the most likely local candidate for a Type E:

http://www.penriteoil.com...=4&id_products=379

That's my 2¢ worth of wisdom anyway.
Re:Gearbox removal (deano)

thanks Flighter, I realised today at work I had the yesterford pricelist from Mike.
He lists an 80W penrite gear oil so I'll check out your links as well and get something sorted.
Re:Gearbox removal (Flighter)

Yep - Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90

http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/transmission-fluid/manual/manual-transmission-and-transaxle-gear-lube-75w-90/

Note that this is for a 5 speed Type 9 though; a 4 speed Type E uses a different weight.
The place I bought it from is also the Au distributor: Balcatta Performance.

http://australian-amsoil-imports.com.au/product/amsoil-manual-transmission-transaxle-gear-lube-75w-90/

Price at the moment is actually a little less than US rrp (at the current exchange rate), and shipping is very reasonable too, which is a pleasant surprise.
