wiring an after market tacho in a mk1

I have a vdo tacho I want to install in my mk1. is there a way to get the signal using the standard wires or should I run a new cable to the -ve side of the coil?..

Finally got the engine back from the builders and installed. Have fitted the Sierra EFI and have started wiring same. Just a question... do you still utilise the standard Escort wiring for the coil or use the wiring from the ECU/distributor or connect both?? Id still like to be able to use the tacho..

Fuel gauge and tacho issues

Gday all, I have 2 issues. 1 - The fuel gauge dosent work, no matter how much fuel is in the tank the gauge reads about 3/4 full. does anyone know what values I should be getting back from the fuel tank sender ?
