Yah my bad, didn't read correctly !
With some proper bodging I reckon you could get a old Hilux slave cyl to work.
Looking good in the engine bay tho 👍
What are you going to use to clean out the tank? My mk1 Escort tank has old super sludge inside it that won't budge..

I've had good results with solvent and abrasives. Haven't pulled it out yet so I will see. Depending on condition, I might opt to use a commercial product. Tank, and sender, is specific to the wagon, so it has to be saved...

Fingers crossed 🤞

Great progress, enjoying reading about it.
Yeah getting old sucks, I did the suspension bushes on the Escort a couple of weekends back and was rooted afterwards

I used KBS Aquakleen on my tank, soaked and agitated it for a couple of days and it came out spotless. This was the crap that came out of it in the end. It smelt as bad as it looked.

Haven't used that yet although the local paint shop is a stockist so 'll give it a try.

Thanks, Shaun

Got an hour free this morning so with the help of my 8yr son, managed to get the tank out of the wagon.

Has evidence of a patch however it seems very solid and dry.

Yet to pull the sender however I'm hopefull it shouldn't be too bad.

For those that have never seen a wagon tank, here it is....

Sort of looks like a escort van mk1 tank but notched

Yes. My thoughts exactly, however I'd never seen one before, not even a pic.

Sits under the rear section behind the axle with the section for the spare tyre under the cargo area.

Will get to flushing and painting on Wednesday.

Most of the driveline has now had a touch up whilst waiting for bits to arrive and finishing the engine.

Tailshaft gearbox and diif have all had a touch up with the wire wheel/brush and either a lick of satin black or oiled.

Got the rank cleaned out and painted up. It was pretty clean inside and fortunately all that was needed was a good wash out with the degreaser I had.

After that was done and painted I officially started on the body work. I had promised myself I waouldnt until it was running and driving, however I made an exception for the battery tray as I considered it part of the engine bay.

Spot welds came out easy, filled a few drill holes with the welder. Will tidy it up a little and replace the rusted out one that is in there.

I found it interesting that the Australian tray was a different shape to the English wagon one. So many little differences.

good progress Shaun.
Maybe having an 8 year old son is the key to getting stuff done, another set of hands.
So are you planning on putting it on club rego soon then?
I got the Capri rego last week, $750 bucks....:(
