Got another few hours in the garage this arvo so cracked on with the firewall blanket, it's sitting nicely now. All i have to do now is cut the holes for anything that heads through it. I'll do that one at a time as I come along to it, I also want to get eyelets for where the hangers are up at the top, surprisingly though there isn't really much weight on the hangers. Once the material gets snug to the firewall it starts to hold it's own weight with friction.

I had leftovers from the roof and the firewall that I didn't want to go to waste, waste not want not as they say. So I used them to go under the rear seat, between the two offcuts it's covered the whole area.

I think I'm going to grab the jute cloth car builders have for the rest of the floor pan, it's only 70 bucks for a roll and it's pretty thick.

Also chucked new bearing races in the hubs and started painting them.

Still no shockers or diff, but if neither arrive by the weekend I think I'll start putting the wiring harness back in the cabin area. That's going to be a big job because I still need to build a separate "accessories" harness for the fuel pump, boot battery, ecu and a few other electrical things.

I started cleaning up the door strikers and latches this arvo and mocked up the discs, I have the rotor bolts soaking in cleaner and I'll give them a wire brush tomorrow and button it all up.

I would have fitted the strikers and latches but I didn't have any new star washers so I ordered a pack.

Still haven't gotten a postage notification so looks like the diff or shockers won't be here by the weekend. The wait continues .

Something nice about restoring the old gear. Kind of still has that patina?

Onto the door strikers.
The metal part that the latch rides over when you shut the door wears over time and gets that bit of a groove. I have generally purchased complete new strikers (cheaper when you only have 2 doors!).
Does anyone know if (and where) you can source just the rubber complete with the nylon friction pad? They tend to get a bit hard.  One of the friction pads on the current build is not real secure after being shunted whilst getting the door hung correctly

What you do Mark is get ones from a 4dr part out car TC/TF included and grab the rear ones only as they won't have been used 1/10th time as the fronts.

Shocks went in the mail today.. fingers crossed they arrive tomorrow but I doubt it, will probably be Monday which is a bugger, would have loved to have had them for the weekend cause that would be the front suspension pretty much done.

No rest for the wicked though, I stripped down the pedal box and I'll drop that at the powder coater tomorrow, I forgot about it with the first lot.

It's amazing how good the accelerator pedal has come up with some cleaner and a brass wheel - a proper brass one not a brass coated steel wheel, I've made that mistake before.

Rotors are on and buttoned up - couldn't find a torque spec so just did them to 50nm, seemed to feel about right .

They're sitting in the assembly que now waiting to go on.

Noice, assembly queue haha, I have sheds of assembly queue parts !
Fun fact and your decision in brake rotor orientation.
Installing then Catherine wheel direction or saw blade direction?
Before you say anything, it does not make any difference except looks, however the difference will be in braking distance being a smidge further than non slotteds due to less friction area. (Engineering Explained did the test), USA install then saw blade style..
No fear tho, when you find a pair of Volvo 4 pots, the stopping distance well lessen by heaps , I mean heaps even with taxi pads !
I need to look at my mk2 brakes as they are same as yours but running Volvo calipers , Catherine wheel direction, it's an upgrade very worth doing , escort MC works fine with them too.. let's hope the inserts turn up tomorrow for you 🤞

You know what I never really thought about it - I have always just installed them saw blade because it "looked" right for rotation.

I just went down the rabbit hole and Euro high spec cars are all the Catherine? way - they spend squillions on engineering so I'm sure there is some benefit for them being that way.

Shockers arrived - they're wrong. They called me up yesterday and said I ordered the wrong ones when I ordered the Capri/British RS ones. I said I didn't think so, that the ones they wanted to send would be too small. The assured me that they would fit and surprise surprise when they arrived they're too small.

Oh No!
Problem with listening to the experts!
Another week then.
