Some adjusting of the return edge

A quick test fit, as the other side is already in I made sure the measurements were the same, within 5mm anyway..

Here it is all welded in it's place. Yes I know it's the wrong side turret, it's because the guy in UK sent 2x Rh side ones, it's not much of a problem as most gets trimmed off at chassis level
And there we have it, rear turrets fitted and sealed, they are inclined at a few degs neg ( top inwards)

Thought I show the cut out piece and the welded in piece, only bit missing is the exhaust tip arch ...

... So I gave it a go, oops, a bit bigger than original, oh dear, just means I'll need to fill it with big exhaust...
Here's the hand drawn shape

I left about 10mm from the main line so I could bend the metal back under to look like factory

Bit of a slack week, had a few other things to get done so didn't do too much on the car. Bought a 4lt jar of acrylic primer and thinners and got spraying over some bare areas recently repaired, decided I needed to buy some cans of stone chip since the arches are done now ..

And

These areas

Today I cut the rear vent cowl off, if you ever wonder where the water gets in its these places..

Here's the vent panel

The inside panel looks to scary to remove so I'll just wire wheel it and treat it to stop rust continuing then will paint the area so it's going to reduce any further rusting.
I did buy some classy furniture for the car last week, I'll show these in a future episode.

Deano, your PM inbox is full again !!

that's because people keep on sending me stuff to buy!
Box is cleared out, apart from those with useful links for led headlights, reverse lights, seats etc

Glad to see someone is getting garage time still.
Shooting some paint on is always a good step forward.
Sometimes I think we do too much of a rebuild, then you watch a few UK UT's and see the utter basketcases they start of with. It would be so nice to be be amongst it all, and have easy access to engines, panels, wheels etc. Plus their ebay is full of Escort stuff, not like our dregs..

Keep on it Marty, your have the headliner in by Boxing Day, easy at this rate

Yeah, trying to keep the ball rolling with this resto. Did you see those guys on Odd Autos doing that mk1... It would've been easier to buy all parts and build a new car !!

I'm contemplating making a fibreglass bonnet and boot for this car when the time comes to start the bodywork prep for painting.
Some things still to do to the body/frame
1, tramp brackets
2, panhard rod bracket
3, widen the gearbox tunnel
4, possible larger diff tunnel
5, sunroof roof skin
6, gutter rails on 1 side
7, modify the seat mounts for new seats

Forgot one..
8, continue to seam weld chassis..

I'm not sure yet Deano what wheels I'll be using, at the moment I've got a set of Hustlers to use as temps, we'll see...

Grabbed a can of rust stop, going cheap, prolly cause of the colour... Brown but doesn't matter as the areas well be hidden or painted later on. The patch welding looks bad but cares as long as it's sealed up the area it'll be fine

There was a little bit of repairs on the return lip for the rubber seal too, so I got them sorted while there.

Here is the missing piece from rust I repaired

That channel near the side is too be filled with sealer, a nice generous dollop so it stops water from passing and entering the boot. When I did this I sat the panel on and lifted it to see if it's all covered which it was .
A full arvo of welding followed , repairing the ends and test fit and finally weld for good

Here it is all connected in place

A little bit of cleaning of the plug welds and it's good to go

I still haven't fitted the back panel but that ok cause it gives good access into the boot area. The new seat combo I've recently bought will require some or lots of install and remove attempts to get right. Kind of need to make the car fit the seats in the rear to a point , brackets need to be made up etc for them to work as intended.

Deano, check these wheels out.. Shame I've only got 3x tho, 13x7 with mad offset, left overs from the Anglia build. Genuine UK Revolution 4 spoke GRP 1 rally wheels.

Looking good Marty. Worth its weight in welding wire
With the paint/sealer you applied before fitting the grill panel is it heat/weld resistant?
I've been trying to research 'weld through' primer. It does not seem to be much known about. Not sure if it any different to normal zinc type primer that I use in the same way now.
