Not sure if it's the same one or not but a guy here in Adel owned one for ages and from local folklore he smashed it pretty hard in the front left bending the bullhead during a closed stage in the classic rally about 20 odd yrs ago. It was fixed and documented , maybe he sold it on, dunno !
In the meantime give this link a watch, 9500rpm bdg in action, enjoy

zero bids so far on the RS.
I dunno, but as a racecar I recon they look odd, and perhaps a little fragile in a way.
You get so used to seeing the flatfronts instead.

This van is the last car i'll do, so I dont need to look at the sites much anymore.
I did spot a cheap van come up on FB somewhere this week which I'm sure you may have seen, I think it was open to offers basically before it was going to get dropped at the wreckers.

A friend has a  Mini 850  that got hail damaged about 30 years ago and wants a hand with as soon as he gets the motivation.
Some good welsh rally vids popped up this week too.

I'll say never to owning a RS again . It's something about the extra 20+kgs hanging over the front wheels . Yes they are nice cars and admire the work people put into them restoring and such but I prefer flat front mk2 any day, and a RS2 must only be 2dr .

Hey MarkA, Greg Carr rallied a yellow Droop Snoop in 76-77 with the same colors as the RS1800 , it had the black rubber forest arches etc, it's 1 of those 25 German jobs .I used to have the poster of it and in fine print in the corner said " This escort is a special built rally car and is not available from your local Ford dealer ' end quote. Maybe Greg's is the above one for sale in different colors ????

ok, engines in, now needs everthing hooking up.
Minor damage to the radiator fan and inlet manifold when it nosedived off the jack, but we wont go there.

Never notice the extra 20kg Marty when the Cossie is pushing it along. But definitely on the money with 2 doors. Most Pommies think we are kidding when we tell them we got a 4dr RS.

my brother in law is doing a big house shift, so I scored a few boxes of mostly Mk1 parts.
I now also have wiper arms, sunvisors, and a bonus secondhand windscreen.
It cleaned up suprisingly ok, so its slung in temparary for now with some tape, to keep the dust and stray paint down.
The best part is it came with rego already, 1980's style.

the footwell is now tidied up.

and I dug out out a set of oldschool Genie extractors.
Not alot of room in there for the cables and steering column, I'm pretty sure my new clutch cable will start feeling the heat.

Fortunately the local Repco had a storewide also on, so I grabbed some Car Builders exhaust wrap to try.
If the van ever ends up having the ITB's fitted, it will need an O2 sensor.
Time to weld in a bung and start my first crack at welding exhaust bits. I've drilled the hole and its just about weld time.
Marty suggested I check my stainless tube and bits to see if it's magnetic, at least the tube and flex bits are.
Not so much the rear hotdog, that seems to be true stainless, not just shiny mild steel.
Crack out the mig!

It was stinking hot Saturday, perfect weather to do some welding.
My first ever exhaust is taking shape, and of course I used the gasless mig to try doing stainless.
The tube and bends were just lying around ready, and before I knew it, it was time to bite the bullet and give it a crack.
I dont think i'll pass any welding ticket, but so long as the van doesnt end up sounding like an old Fergie, I'll be happy.

I'm still figuring some of the layout in the pics, and need some brackets to finish off, but overall I'm pretty pleased with how it is turning out for a first attempt.

Well look at you, going gang busters on the tube welding, looks perfectly fine for zorst. Did you cut the 90s back to 45 in some areas ? I do a lot of fit ups, marking, cutting, welding, good therapy hehe, not sure about the 35 heat tho even I stayed inside that day..
It'll be done before you know it, next you'll want to pipe the Capri 😁
