cheers Blue, the alternative isnt too exciting so I'm glad to be above ground.
It turns out that intersection is a blackspot that is being pushed for classification and remedy.
Apparently you need 5 fatalities, but they are only up to 3 so far....

I have about 3 weeks on another project, then the escort van can resume.
Decision has been made, all running gear from the 2L will be taken off and installed on the van.
I might put up so yes or no posts on each before changin over, to make sure I'm upgrading and not going backwards.

Who puts up these stupid rules, need 5 fatalities, does the rta have a tally board with all road corners deaths... Just pathetic. But on the other hand if a mp gets dead on a corner it's instant restructure the roads there.
On a good note we're glad your still above ground and ok.

As with installing the new running gear from the broken car, the simplest way would be to cut the floors and bulkhead off both cars and swap lids over. I've seen this with mk1 Escort with a full Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 floor, his only complaint was wiper blade chatter at 176MPH !
A local Adelaide hills guy did similar in 1994 using a rolled Laser tx3 4x4 turbo floor mated to his mk2 Escort, the length was slightly longer but a chop in the less strain area and also a set of mild arches kept the Laser tx3 wheels tucked away, fast sleeper..

agreed Marty.
We found out the last fatality was a few years ago, so due for another soon.
Some good might come out, as there was a petition group after the last death. When my wife's head gets sorted, she is going to try and re raise this intersection for attention. We were 4 adults, and allparents also.

Anyhow, I checked our car, chassis rails (well, it doesnt have them, but floorpan is twisted as you'd suspect.)
Lots of interesting pics to see how the car deformed, yet remained structurally spaced out correctly.
Glass roof did not break, and rear electric tailgate still opened. The car would actually still drive.
My wife even got a impact bruise in the shape of seat stitching from the seat bolter airbag going off.
I have been told Porsche might want the car back to examine.

Didn't realize it was a Porsche.. I'd been working on a 2018 Cayanne the last couple weeks which is on its way to Perth now. I repaired the rear suspension so it was good enough to load on the truck/train..
Gotta say they are built rock solid. If you all was in a ve or falcon that corner would've got the quota to be fixed plus a couple spare..

I'm another that's been doing a lot of reading of other poster, but not contributing much of my own. I'm currently collecting bits for my C20xe build to go in the motorkhana car, so not that exciting.

Re the hit;  modern cars are amazing.

I work in road crash rescue as a day job. I'll often see people 'step' out of accidents once we 'pop' a door, that only a few yrs ago, would have been a certain fatality.

We even get notified by the vehicles themselves post accident, giving us a GPS location. On arrival, the steering wheel, and peddles will be retracted and a remote person is talking (or attempting) to, the driver via the entertainment system....

Side curtain airbags have made a huge improvement on outcomes for side impacts.

thats very interesting to learn Shaun.
For what you do, next to nurses, you are saints.
I'd buy you as many beers as needed if we ever meet.

The firrieys/SES crew did struggle to get the door unjammed, using the portapower.
Now that you mentioned it, I am suprised that the car did not automatically dial, we had paired phones, and obviously the airbags triggered, which is what I thought prompted the emergency call.
We spoke to the dispatched via the cars stereo.
I ended up fitting the steering wheel airbag cover, prior to the doors being cut off, as my wife was still trapped.
In the end, the hospital didnt realise I was a passenger in the car'until the next morning, as I helped so much post accident.Adrenaline is pretty amazing.

We toyed briefly with getting a different car as a replacement, so as not to be a reminder.
But it saved our lives, and you can walk past that.

stay safe.

has anyone had wheels banded before?

I'm debating whether to have 13x6 OEM rostyles re rimmed to 15"x7 or 8".
I have a set not being used, and thought it might be an alternative to the Minilights.

Any issue with such a relatively larger/wider rim being done with the steel, compared to what a similar size alloy would weigh?
Any recommendations who could do this?
Seems like its common practice in the UK.

cheers

I don't think you can go any bigger than 1" in height so 14" is it as the center gets loose where it needs to be a tight push fit. Er, maybe a set of old sunrasyias could be used as a mule for testing ..
