Yep, saw the pics, looks like fun. Might have to get onto Nic C and see what I'd need to do as far as specs. Its pretty rough around the edges.

I still have this...

This car was always meant to be a tester/practice build car and I have always wanted to have a go at building a cage...  So, this is my 'practice' to see if I'd build it in the 'good' shell... I know, it's cost me as much in materials as I have in the rest of the car, but considering my enthusiasm can often out way my ability, I dont feel it's a bad investment! That and I see the aftermath of road accident trauma as part of my day job.

Anyway, it's came up alright for a hack like me.  Seems plenty strong enough. Built to CAMS specs/design.

Few more bars to go yet.

That's a strong looking cage, did you do the bends as well?

I bought a very basic weld in 6 point cage with double doors bars from Bronson at www.bcfi.com.au. The fit is excellent and was far cheaper than anywhere else.

After I started putting it to together and thought, If I'm going to do it, I only get one chance, so bought some more tube from Brown Davis and upgraded to the offroad/full rally spec cage.

What I did find interesting is the difference in cage steel. The later being much brighter and softer.

In the mean time, I've been piecing together another engine from leftover parts which should more than compensate for the extra cage weight.

It a fun learning experience.

Don't forget the bracing around the spiderweb section and the door bars as per the CAMS manual.  No doubt you will

Great work

So cage almost done now. Just need to add a few gussets. Got a bit carried away with the new engine. Nearly all second hand or leftover parts, but should be fun. Will post some pics soon. Also thinking of another paint job as, not surprisingly, the $3 spray paint hasn't lasted too well... Lol... I have some left over silver metallic and gloss black from another job. Will be another driveway job though!

So have been in touch with Nick C and the plan is to have a try at motorkhana with this one. There is a come and try event in a few weeks so the rush is on to get the car up to spec. I have made a list and the following are either needed for regs or what I want for handling. Going to be a busy 2 weeks. At least I have most of the parts (somewhere) Remembering I slapped the car together originally as a bush basher.
The list to fit or modify is:
2 litre front struts and springs.
Drill crossmember for more camber
Modify sway bar mound for caster.
Fit lowering blocks.
Clean up and fit 13x6 rims.
Purchase some road legal tyres
Move battery (currently under dash)
Secure brake lines through cabin
Fit front rear lights
Fit front door cards handles
Properly secured seats
Fill holes in firewall
Extend and modify exhaust to make quieter
Fit wipers?
Fit rear shock
secure bonnet

Plus anything else I can think of remember.

Going to be busy, will post pics as I go

Shaun.
