Well I rang North on Thursday and they had nothing but a guy was there who worked down South. He said there was a Mondeo @ Lonsdale which should have an engine in it so i rang. Lonsdale said they had nothing so I had a mate call past on Friday and he verified a Mondeo complete with engine.

So tools in hand I attacked it first thing this morning. Only down side was that the MAF and Coil pack was already missing but at least i can dummy up all my mounts etc.

Now's hoping the Celica box fits in the manual tunnel without too much "massaging"

Hi Paul.
It's not a great job pulling one out at a wreckers is it.
I did the same thing 18months ago for a spare at Pick a part Cambellfield. The bolt ons dont stop, there is just more and more as you go.

Hi Pete.

Yes, not alot of fun - still need to get a special 6 sided star tool to remove the brackets used for all the unwanted accessories![:(!]

Also, anyone have an idea of pricing on the basics like piston ring sets for a Zetec? Not that I need them but just curious....

Anyone here had a go at modifying the original sump to suit RWD? Doubt its much fun welding the crappy cast, oil impregnated alloy...[V]

I got JE pistons for a Black Top Zetec which comes with rings....
You can have for $300

Torx bits are never fun[8~2]

Thanks but it's a Silver top and I don't think they're inter-changable.

At this stage I'm hoping the engine is OK as the it had 230k on the clock. Had a recent service ticket on the windscreen and a block full of green coolant. Always a gamble on an engine from upullit but the price reflects that.

Hi Paul.
I paid $50 for my spare, 108K on the clock.
My sump in the RS is the original modified.
I had to put in a oven for a while and at least a litre of oil came out. Blew up the tig at the tme as well.
The next time it's out I am going to seal the inside with somethng as it tends leak a little in places.
I don't remember if I used one of the "bits" I have in a set or if a std alen key fits. If you are coming over I am sure I have some spare "bits".
Regards
Peter

Well considering the run of the mill wreckers want $1000+ for one I'm well please to pay way less and spend a Saturday morning in the rain doing it myself - I think [x2x]

Pete, I will have a look around the local tool places and see what they're worth and if no luck I might take your offer [;^)]

It would be too easy just to import one of the UK made items and save a lot of pain but that pain only goes straight to the wallet! [:u]
