Spent most the weekend battling with my pedal box. As I’m unable to adjust the pedal height in the car I had to continually remove and alter - then refit. At least I’m bloody proficient at that task now. My EPAS complicated this somewhat as I’m bracing the steering column to the pedal box as the new power steering can generate some torque and I wanted added strength.
All my brake lines are plumbed up for the final time And ready to have a shot at bleeding (assuming no leaks 🤞) but just need some pads for the rear.
Hoping the engine isn’t too far away 👍

Keeping with my OEM appearance I converted the filler to incorporate an unleaded restrictor and ratchet cap. Might need to find a lockable one 😉

nice solution paul, i didnt even think of this when changing.

Any clearance issue when the plate is closed?

Clearance with the cap shown is fine. However if I was to choose a lockable cap it may be necessary to have the “handle” positioned horizontal to clear the plate (if that makes sense). Poor image below but you get an idea of the clearance.

Main reason I went this way is I’m the cap seals much better that the original style.

Paul I like the way you come up with the OEM looking solutions, they look like they ware meant to be there.
What filler neck did you use for the conversion?

I’m sure it was from a late model Fiesta etc. I had a few options as some of the older inserts were metal but this one was plastic which clipped into the steel outer tube. I cut off the very end of the original Escort filler and with a bit of fettling it was a snug fit and sealed with JB Weld. I had to use the smaller cap from the earlier steel insert as it gave more clearance to the number plate. If I use the larger (and possibly a locking) fuel cap the “handle” has to be horizontal to clear the number plate.

Hi paul

Another question, i was browsing your thread and seen you used KBS rust shield on your diff. Im building up a pigs head with LSD and was going to paint it but after seeing you liked the product have ordered some. If i tape off the areas (mating surfaces) will that be enough? i just want to make sure i dont get any leaks due to the paints getting into areas i dont want it.

Hi Robbie. Yes the KBS stuff is great. Goes on smooth, covers well and is rock hard when cured. Just use gloves as it’s impossible to get off your hands.

Thanks, finding gloves in this day and age!

So if i tape up it should be fine?

Absolutely although as it’s brushed on it’s not hard to paint around key mating surfaces without the need for masking.
