OK, as I need to remove the engine to continue the body work I need to complete the gearbox mounts. I purchased a replacement Celica gearbox mount as the original was shagged and then had a think about how I would do it to retain an OEM appearance.
So, A little time measuring and then draw them up in Solidworks to produce a flattened out template to transfer to the 1.2mm plate. These were then bent up at work and should do the job (see below).
They will be plug welded to the floor pan with the verticle section extending up into the tunned and welded to provide additional strength. The cross member will bolt to the longer horizontal surface of the mount and this will give me the room required to remove the gearbox if required in the future.
A "floating" tapped plate will be installed prior to welding in place which the cross member will bolt too through the new boxed mounts - similar to the principle used for the door hinges to allow adjustment.
I will rivet temporarily in place so i can measure and bend up the cross member.
