I've adjusted my valves to the specs from a 1975 haynes manual, (pre ADR27a) which is a high compression 2V engine. The specs were:
inlet 0.25mm exhaust 0.55mm.

Can someone please give me the specs for my 1976 1V engine? Many thanks in advance

Not Sure as it doesnt specify if it is 1V or 2V but Ive just checked a 1977 Mk2 Escort Ford Workshop Manual for the L, GL and GHIA & it states that the the 1600 OHV motor that is used.

So if this is any help the Valve Clearances for this motor are
Inlet - 0.20 mm (0.008 in.)
Exhaust - 0.55 mm (0.022 in.)

[x2x] My Haynes manual is for the 1.1, 1.3 and 1.6 1975 escort. It only makes reference to a 2V 1600, not HC.
