My boy has a 1975 MK1 Escort with the original 1.3L auto engine/geabox within. Can we upgrade to a 1.6L noting he has siezed the engine without having to do too much? Thanks, Ken

I just did the 1.3 to 1,6 swap. It was pretty straight forward.

A couple of key points.

Use the 1600 sump on the 1600 motor.

The 1.3 auto will work fine with the 1600 (just remember to transfer the washer, driveplate and spacer to the crank)

Protect your selector & kickdown cables from the heat if you fit extractors.

The 1600 block will require 1x different engine mount. The guys at Yesterford can supply the right one.

Ahh, that explains the extra tubing that was cable tied onto the selector and kickdown cables on the auto I just took out from my car.

Why the different mount ? I've just used the two that came from the 1300 ?

The 711M (1600) block is slightly wider than the 681F (1300). So the drivers side mount can stay, but the passenger side mount needs to be a bit shorter. The one I got from Yesterford was listed on my invoice as "LH short engine mount". It is the rectangular type and cost $55 + $10 postage. They're in Bayswater and their number is (03)97614714. Awesome to deal with..

I should also mention that the Yesterford mount face will need to be drilled a little because it doesn't have a recess in it like your stock ones. That recess is obviously needed to locate onto the crossmember where the little bumps are.
