I just had my car rolling roaded and got 99 rear wheel HP with 420 pounds of torque. The opperator stated that the engine was lean and that it had more in it. Engine has roller rockers, standard cam and carby. What should one expect to see for basicly a standard engine? I would have thought these numbers to be about the mark.

99 rwhp sounds about right. However the 420 must be a typo. Should read about 135ft lbs at the rears.
For some reason we dont talk about tuning for more power much on here. Could be we are all too busy out cruisin and listening to that wonderfull v6 noise. Or could be we just haven't got around to it yet.

Ah thanks for the reply, I just needed a base line to work from, 420 pound of torque not ft lb, but your figure sounds about right.Basicly I am going to gain as much as I can from the use of external mods ie exhaust, ignition and carby tune and thats about it. Would like to see around 120 hp and some more of that torque, pitty mine only sounds nice at idle these days, fitted a ballance pipe to the car and it has really changed the exhaust note from a rummble to snarl from around 2000 rpm and up.

Had my V6 recently dyno tuned
Got 123hp at rear wheels @ 5400rpm
150 ft/lbs @ 2800rpm
Was nowhere near this before tuning
Car has got a 390cfm 4 barrell which helps

Torque readings on dynos will show the multiplication of the gearing in the car. For example (and not accounting for frictional losses in the drivetrain), if you tested in 4th gear which is a 1:1 ratio, and the diff is say a 3:1 ratio, then an engine putting out 100ft/lbs at the flywheel would show 300ft/lbs on the dyno. Some dynos are configurable for gearbox and diff ratios so that the results are correct.

I reckon you should get your tune sorted out as lean = bad especially in hot weather - not a problem where I am

Capri69gt did the fitting of the balance pipe make any difference to the power?
Hmmm, "69gtv6" and "rolling road?" Methinks you come from the uk somewhere, it will be good to get your input around here.

nope, live in good old Adelaide. First mod was to remove old mufflers and replace with new straight threw glass packed ones, made a small difference. Fitted the balance pipe and car will go a bit sideways going for second gear. Gearbox is a 5 speed Toyota W57 box. But before I put it back on the rolling road I will get the ignition sorted and find some jets for the carby. The ignition system is a MSD 6AL2 programmable unit, so lock up the dizzy at full advance and program ignition curve through MSD, will also be using the optional map sensor to map ignition under load conditions. Looking forward to the results.

I just had my standard 3L with roller rockers and triple 42 dcnf's dynoed at 104HP at the rear wheels. I have had it tuned by Unigroup not so long ago with same set-up at 130HP. Don't know where the 26HP went???[x2x][x2x][x2x][x2x]
