Hey guys just wondering if its possible, and worth doing.. Iv seen a few Escorts with the black front and rear bumpers, without the rubber bit, Is it possible to do it to a bumpe thats is chrome and has the rubber bit? id have to somehow get rid of the holes that hold the rubber bit on, but how?? and how would you go about painting the chrome?

Or is it not worth it and may aswell just buy a $350 rally pak one?

if you really wanted to you could just weld the holes up and then get it re chromed, it would probably be a pain in the arse though to mak eit ill flush and smooth

What about painting it?? Id probably consider leaving the holes if i could paint it, dont mind a bit of ratty look here and there.

Did that with my old RS.

Original bumper was full of bog, and I could only find a replacement one with the rubber that was straight enough. So, welded up the holes, ground the welds back flush, then scuffed the chrome up with an orbital sander, hi-fill primer then some nice satin black 2 pack.

Worked a treat.

saw chrome paint in a rattle can the otherday, tried it on an engine mount and looked great. best of both worlds.

You could get em sandblasted and powder coated, I did it with mine and they've come up a treat. I got em done in Satin Black. It's not that expensive either if you find the right place. Most powder coaters should be able to blast em first for you. If you end up just painting them just use the normal prep for painting, clean all the rust and dirt of them, give a sand with 120 grit to rough up the chrome, a couple of coats of primer (light sand between coats with 600 grit) and a couple of top coats (sand between) The more top coats and light sanding, the better they will be. I may still have my black, non rubber ones, at home somewhere off my mk 2, i'll have a look for ya.

Hey Richo, Yehh I just dunno how to go about the holes.. like welding them and then trying to get them smooth might be a job and a half.. if you wanna sell your front and rear bumpers ill be pretty keen.

Out of curiosity what brand was it? Ive heard great things and horrible things about them would like to know what brand is good

anchor, wasn't chrome per say, more a high shine silver with wet look.
still beats black though for what I wanted.

preperation is the key. first effort was poor.
second not too shabby.
